Lately, there have been a lot of theories floating around about the silhouettes shown at the top of the forum, so I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents. I'm going to go from left to right, and include any notes referring back to previous characters.
Far Left
I would like to get this point out of the way right now. In my mind, there is no possible way that the large humanoid on the far left is an elite. I have multiple reasons for this assumption, listed below.
1. The armor- Sangheili armor has always been shown as relatively smooth and flowing. The outline of this figure, by contrast, is quite bumpy, similar to various armor permutations of Spartans in Halo 3. Also, I believe the character is holding a chaingun in his right hand, which would explain the flowing line just to the left of his leg (an ammo belt trailing from the feeding mechanism).
2. The anatomy - Sangheili also have very feline legs, though adapted for an upright stance. The knee area is bent just like a human knee, but the ankle is permanently bent back to the front, just like the hind legs of a cat or dog. Because of this, elites are digitigrade - they walk on their toes. This causes them to lean forward slightly, even when standing at full upright posture. The silhouette is clearly not bent forward, and the legs seem to have a human shape (though this may be caused by the angle the figure is standing).
So, if I don't think it is an elite, who is it? There are two possibilities. One is that this is an entirely new species, though this is doubtful, since the game is supposed to follow the book. The other, most likely possibility is that this is a Spartan. I personally believe this to be true, and my best guess, due to simple process of elimination, is that this is Will.
EDIT: I realized that I had forgotten one idea that has been mentioned frequently - a marine training officer. Due to the size of this figure, this is very possible, though I feel like that would be a lot less epic than having Will pose with the other 4.
EDIT 2: Sam is another possibility that I forgot to mention, though I ruled him out because of his death on a Covenant warship prior to the battle.
Middle Left
This silhouette is quite a bit smaller than all the rest, even when standing fully upright. This figure is probably either Kelly or Dr. Catherine Halsey, though some of the details would indicate Kelly. These are:
1. The head- Dr. Halsey wore glasses, which she used basically as a heads-up display, projecting images and readouts directly onto the screen. She did not wear a helmet, and had longer than military regulation length hair. The silhouette seems to indicate a helmet being worn, with a visor-like projection on the right of the head. Also, no hair is seen cascading off the head, another indicator of a helmet being present.
2. The legs- The knee joint outlines have texture, and, when viewed closely, are comparable to the joints seen on the figures both to the left and right of this figure. Since we are assuming that a Spartan stands to the left (and the middle figure I will soon show to be another Spartan), one could conclude that the legs are encased by Spartan armor, indicating Kelly to be this figure.
Another point to rule out other Spartans - Kelly was known as the fastest runner among all the Spartan-II's. The build of this figure is slight, which would lend itself to a runner.
Middle
Many forumdwellers vehemently believe that this is John, the Master Chief. Personally, I am unsure. Process of elimination would indicate this silhouette to be John, though the helmet seems to have a larger projection than that seen on the helmet. However, this may simply be an object on his head or a flaw in the graphic (doubtful, as everything else is damn near perfect).
A flaw to this conclusion that has been pointed out many times is that John never actually set foot on Reach. His participation in the battle involved the destruction of a navigation database in compliance with the Cole Protocol. He led Blue Team, consisting of himself, Linda, and James, to the space station on which the ship (the Circumference) had docked. I've managed to find a workaround this conflict. If the game follows the storyline of the book, it would most likely include the story of Blue Team, meaning that John would be in the game.
Middle Right
In an effort to shorten things up, I won't try long explanations for this silhouette. The figure holds a long slender object, which resembles no weapon seen before in the Halo games. It resembles a long, slender knife. Fred was stated to be an expert with combat knives in The Fall of Reach, so I believe this silhouette is Fred.
Interesting side-note - this figure's helmet has the same projection or object as the middle figure, indicating that this might be part of the helmet itself.
Far Right
The most obvious conclusion for this silhouette is Linda, easily guessed by most. The sniper rifle being held is an obvious indicator. The only problem is that she also never set foot on Reach, but the same explanation can be used for the middle silhouette.
Alright, now that you've survived reading that (or skipped to the end for you lazier people), my final conclusion - going from left to right - is: Will, Kelly, John, Fred, Linda.
And please, don't comment if you're just going to complain about the wall of text. I had a point to prove, and lots of evidence to back it up, so skip around if you don't feel like reading the whole thing.
