But the Fleet of Particular Justice is an Elite-only fleet.

What?

I don't think most people are disputing whether they existed during Reach, but that none were mentioned in the book (unless I'm forgetting things, which is possible, since I haven't read the book in a while).

I think people have to be willing to suspend belief a bit and take into account the realities of game design. The story hasnt been fully fleshed out in Halo 1, alot of new things have been added since then and I think its reasonable to think that some of this new stuff could have technically existed before hand as far as canon is involved. just because Halo 1 didnt have the Brutes, doesnt mean they didnt exist in the Covenant before hand. Bungie may have added them afterwards, but the canon can always be updated. It happens in Universes like Warhammer 40k all the time, the canon changes after 20 years, Orks go from dumb brutes, to one of the most powerful species in that universe with amazing psychic abilities. Canon can change, and it has with Halo, theres no reason why the Brutes shouldnt exist in Halo Reach, heck, even Locusts, and Scarabs can be present in the new game for all we know.

Bungie knows that this isn't a new story that they just made up and need an excuse to put in the Brutes. The story is already written and there aren't any Brutes, they have no reason to add in the Brute. Players don't want to figh them anymore. Bungie knows we want to fight the Covenant how it was in the book not on Harvest. Elites.

you dont seem to get it , THIS WAS AN ELITE ONLY FLEET, The elites despise the brutes and they were not with them

I doubt that Brutes will show up for two reasons, 1 this game is some serious fan service that people have been asking for for quite some time. The other thing that people have been asking for almost as much is the return of Elites as an enemy. 2, the Brutes were not present in the engagement on Reach in either the Fall of Reach or First Strike. I don't see them writing them in for the hell of it.

Just because they were there beforehand doesn't mean their inclusion is guaranteed.

He's correct, any way according to the first halo book, "fall of reach" there where no brutes, but mainly elites.

fact is, Brutes are already part of the canon now, even during this time period, odds are you will fight them, along with the Elites, and even Drones. Infact, you will likely see everything except for the flood and sentinels. Everything about Halo has gotten updated overtime, new weapons, enemies and vehicles have been added to the lore of the Universe, and removing them just cuz the game happened before halo 1, which didnt include any of the new stuff, would make little sense, and would technically take a significant impact on the Halo lore.

* Edit - I would also like to add that the Spartan Laser never existed in Halo 2, but look, its in the Halo3:ODST trailer which takes place before the weapons Introduction in Halo 3.

I will punt a puppy if they have Brutes instead of Elites. Brutes are not fun at all to fight. They are what made Halo 3's campaign so mediocre and the end of Halo 2 less fun. They are just big bullet sponges, they are not satisfying to kill at all. Elites are intelligent worthy foes. Brutes are big dumb apes which never should have existed in the first place.

I know that legitamately there are no Elites on Reach and from what I have read a Brute has never set foot on the planet. This is why there won't be any Brutes. Though if Bungie wanted to they could think of some way to add them in even though it would tick off a bunch of fans. We are following the path of the Spartan who, while on Reach, never had a Brute contact. Like I said only Bungie has control of this. By adding in the Brutes they would be changing the greatest Halo book. I don't like that.

An Elite fleet showed up to Reach. We will fight no Brutes in the campaign. The only way we could is if the game continues to the journey back to Earth afterwards.

I don't know about that, but that's exactly why there arn't elites in Halo 3: ODST. Brutes and Elites despise each other. They won't station both of them in the same place. They'll just fight over control of the grunts. Lol

I hope the game ends with the Pillar of Autumn making a blind jump into slipspace.

More specifically Elites despise Brutes and look down upon them as nothing more than savages. Brutes hate Elites out of jealousy and disdain for the condescention. Not to mentioned, as I have already stated, that Brutes are not written into this engagement. Bungie has the freedom to pop them wherever they would like in untold stories, but Reach is not an untold story. Unless there are to be engagements outside of what the name implies, there should not be any Brutes.

A written engagement that can be considered somewhat dated, and written by a third party

The first contact Spartans had with Brutes wasn't until after the events at Reach. No Monkeys!

But why.... why would bungie delete the most deadly enemies from the game series?
Unless of course.... if bungie will make elite vanguards??

You've obviously never played Halo 1.

And Fear, stop trying. Please. There shouldn't be and hopefully won't be any Brutes in the new game. Point is, the Fleet of Particular justice, which attacked Reach and followed the PoA to Installation 04, had no Brutes. It was led by the future Arbiter, so it was an all Elite fleet.

  • 06.03.2009 4:21 AM PDT

Your facts are all valid, however they contradict your point. The Elites feared and hated the brutes; therefore they did not work toghether. The fleet that attacked Reach was an Elite based fleet. Therefore there would have been no brutes at Reach, although we are fully aware that they existed. If they were in the game it would be inaccurate to the Halo universe. For that reason i strongly doubt that the Brutes will be in the game unless the storyline is different to what we have asumed.

Besides; the Elites have always been a far greater adversary...

Edit: Fear_Envy, you have clearly not read the books and dont know what you are talking about. We are not questioning their existence, just their participation in the battle in question.
