Subject: Halo: Reach Beta Invitation

BOOM, CHICKEN!!

There is no way that everyone, who buys Halo 3: ODST, will be alowed to participate in the Halo: Reach Beta. There has to be a contest before the Beta Launches, to narrow the field down to few thousand like there was in Halo 3's Multiplayer Beta. My guess: is either a predetermined set of codes or a time based code entry contest similar to the way I got into the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta.

Why do you say that? Everone who bought Crackdown was able to participate in the Halo 3 Beta along with everyone else who got in through other means.

You'd be surprised. A larger beta audience means more bugs can be found, and more feedback gathered. Remember Halo 3's beta with Crackdown? That was pretty popular. many bought Crackdown just for Halo 3's beta. The fools.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

They don't come in the form of codes. Joe Staten confirmed in the recently-broadcast IGN interview of Halo 3: ODST that the beta will be accessible via the EXTRAS feature in the main menu, and it comes with every copy of ODST.

I hope not because they said it has an invitation for it and that is one of the reasons why i am getting the game. So i hope everybody who get's the game can participate.

Note: I would get the game without it anyway but it just adds more reasons.

The halo fan count is decreasing so don't expect too many people to play the beta. Because a lot of them are gone be playing modern warfare 2 and bad company 2.

Actually if I remember correctly only certain copies of Crackdown had the Halo 3 beta.

These open betas are usually to stress test the game and see what goes wrong and/or right with so many people playing. So the more people in, the better.

It was select copies of Crackdown.

Only pre-orders I believe. Which was still tens of thousands, plus thousands of participants more from other sources.

So would it say halo3 beta on the front cover or would you have to be damn lucky to get the beta.

  • 06.02.2009 2:43 PM PDT

I think it should only be for the people who PRE ODERED the game.

I guess. However, Microsoft is just going to allow every possible Halo 3: ODST consumer to participate in a stress test that can be performed with just few thousand, to receive similar results?

Not allowing everyone who bought the game to not get an invitation to the beta would be exceedingly unfair, especially for those who bought game for the beta. Don't know who'd do that though seeing ODST is going to be really cool. And it's a multiplayer beta that isn't going to be up forever sowe can enjoy while it's up.

Why not?

1: it's just a Multi-player beta.
2: No Non Disclosure Agreements are involved. (as far as I can tell)
3: Each beta participant is a possible new buyer.

EDIT: as we draw closer to the beta, I'm sure more details will emerge. But for now, each copy of ODST comes with an invitation.

It's not like they don't have the capacity to hold all of those players... so why not go for as big an audience as possible? Far as I can see it just means more bugs are ironed out so a better end user experience, plus a little reward for the loyal fans who buy ODST.

However, I can't help thinking the inclusion of the beta is to some extent an excuse to up the price of ODST...

I did not pre-order Crackdown and I got a beta key. It was just select copies of Crackdown that had the key. They had a sticker on the front that said it was a copy with a beta invitation though.

Actually I got a copy with the Beta without preordering so that wasn't the case for Crackdown.

Assuming that only select copies get the Beta key then yes. If all of them have it then it would just be on the back as a bullet point.
