KEEP IT CLEAN

Okay excuse this original post for being a little short but I don't think people want to read massive walls of text...

The theory has been proposed that there are 5 Spartans in the story of Halo: Reach. This theory is supported by the forum background picture, which (supposedly) features 5 Spartans, although it is hard to tell what the thing on the left is (at first it looked like an Elite to me, but that doesn't seem right). These Spartans are supposedly on the planet Reach, according to the Halo novel Halo: The Fall of Reach.

Okay so that is the background theory. Here is my gameplay theory, take it or leave it, but comment on it ;):

Do you think it's possible that you may be able to switch between these 5 Spartans seamlessly as you progress through the campaign? You press the right button on the D-Pad (or some similar button) and you move to the next Spartan, who has a different gun and a different skill set (for instance, you switch to the Sniper Spartan, who has a sniper and the ability to "slow time" or something like that).

Before you jump on me for creating A TERRIBLE IDEA OMG let me tell you that I'm not even sure that I like this idea. It's just an idea. It reminds me of playing Shrek with my 6 year old cousin on his Xbox 360. That said, I think that if Bungie could somehow implement this without error or problems, it COULD be a pretty awesome gameplay element.

What do you think?

edit: Hey, what do you know? It was a pretty long post :P

There has always been more than one spartan in the halo universe.

Did any of you guys read what I wrote? Of course I know that there are multiple Spartans in the Halo Universe... my idea is that maybe Bungie is creating a game where you could switch between these 5 Spartans during gameplay so you could use their traits.

Why would you want to switch between 5 different spartans in game? I mean, they are basically identical in capabilities.

How do you know? My theory is that they are NOT identical in capabilities. For instance, one is a better sniper, one is a better driver, one is a better Rocket Launcher(er), etc. That's the whole theory.

Spartans are not equal.
Linda is the best sniper in the UNSC.
Kelly is the fastest Spartan and also rather stealthy (although they all are)

I get what you mean and i agree it would be cool, well except for the slow time thing simpley because spartans dont have those powers, oh and spartans aren't identical linda was always a better shot while sam was stronger and kelly was faster

Yeah I know the slow time thingey is dumb I made it on the spot. I just couldn't think of a way that one spartan could be a "better sniper" than another during gameplay... maybe they're the only ones that could have those weapons?

I got his sarcasm...one person has to implement sarcasm and then you get a pile of terrorist chipmunks crashing your party, not fun at all..

I think you answered it pretty well right there...

True. However, for this to not be redundant in a game, it would have to be more than just minor abilities that are different. Linda is the best sniper and Kelly is the fastest spartan, but besides that they all are capable of performing the same tasks. In games where having multiple characters that you can choose from to complete a level, there are always major trait differences. Like one can fly, or one can breathe under water, or one is super strong, or one is super tiny, etc.

Lets face it, the spartans are different, but not different enough to make switching between spartans in game not redundant.

Maybe each Spartan could only hold one "weapon set", like the sniper Spartan could only hold snipers and a pistol. The tank Spartan could only hold a Rocket Launcher and an Assault Rifle, or something similar. So they would have different skill sets that other Spartans could not have.

But I agree that this would probably make the game pretty dull, which is why this is an idea and not an opinion.

Great theory. I love it. I don't think switching people, like in that old Sonic Heroes game would be that logical. Maybe a different spartan every mission (like Halo 3: ODST), but not switching while playing.

its a good theory but i just want to play with spartans in campaign instead of marines that drive into wraith tanks while on a machine gun hog

AI's are only as good as their programming.

Each spartan could be a different member of blue team...

Here comes Tulkas

A similar, possibly a more logical theory would be a style more similar to Star Wars: Republic Commando. Working as a team to get to the main objective. This would make a very fun twist on the Halo story.

Makes no sense and the weight of this would drag the game down.
