i know that halo3 had an upgraded halo2 engine, and for it's time it was good, and even halo3 looked decent imo, but i think and hope reach will try something new...

halo 3 feels awfuly linear in alot of areas to, even halo 1 surpassed it imo..

overall, im hoping for a game with a larger scale and with a much gritter feel.. obviously, its halo, but i think bungie needs to exploit the 360 like they did with halo 2 on xbox1

we don't even know if its going to be a FPS, so we might get something completely different in terms of graphics. maybe a 3rd person shooter? : )

well that still probably means it will call for a simliar engine from the poll options.. any shooter imo, could run off a halo3-type engine, 3rd or fps. common sense tell us it'll be one or the other, most unlikely a 3rd person shooter

This is unknown, though judging from the trailer and the pictures, it looks like a modified halo 3.

What pictures are you talking about? Also the trailer was CG...

KEEP IT CLEAN

Hopefully a brand new engine. Since Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST are using the same engine, I doubt Bungie would use the same engine to make a new game. I don't think it'll just be modified either because 1. it would look cheap to the consumer that Bungie wouldn't even make a new engine for their "Halo 4" (I know it's not Halo 4 btw) and 2. Bungie got a lot of crap because of how Halo 3 looks. Sure it's got good graphics, but it could've done a lot better. Just like Halo:CE was okay graphics even for the Xbox and Halo 2 was AMAZING graphics for the Xbox, hopefully Halo 3 will be the okay graphic predecessor to a much more amazing Halo: Reach.

I absolutely love the graphics in Halo 3, more so than, probably, any other game. And it's for exactly the opposite of the thing you are looking for. I like the graphics because they are neat and clean, colourful and vivid.
I don't like Call of Duty or Gears precisely because they are gritty, and believe me, they are good at what they do, it's just that Halo is nice and squared off.

i agree with this post. i like your reasoning also. most players will immendiately identify that its a halo3 expansion type game IF it uses the same engine. That doenst mean it must look the same with that engine though..it could look alot different with a similar engine. BUT...

i think bungie needs to knock a homerun this time visually, with games like KZ2 and forza 3 stepping it up bigtime, and their NO telling what we'll see by next E3 from the 360 and ps3, but i think and hope its bungie's turn... not to mention Reach has always had that "what if" scenario attached to it.. like reach would make the ultimate halo game..i see no reason with the perfect gritty timeline, not to introduce a new engine...especially since the 360 is more capable than what was in halo 3'.
halo1, halo2 were both stunners for their time, reach should pick this back up imo
