Would anyone else like to actually play through the basic exercises the spartans had to go through when they were in boot camp? Or on the missions they had to assassinate rebel leaders? I think it would be awesome.

But that isn't all I'm talking about, I'd love to be able to actually play in space combat, I don't mean FPS style either, I mean controlling actual U.N.S.C. Frigates in space, in battles like the one above Reach, I would love to fly the Pillar of Autumn, controlling MAC guns, and pulling off crazy maneuvers like Captain Keyes does in the books.

Would anyone else like to see stuff like this?

Sanity is a perception. If you think I'm insane, you need your eyes tested.

I think both would be awsome. Although space battles might be harder to implement in a fun way, thats easy to control and lets you pull crazy stunts that slam plasma torpedos back into their own ships.

"We sleep peaceably in our beds, because rough men stand ready to visit violence upon those that wish to do us harm."

"Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of all those who threaten them."

No that game would basically be a multi genre and would probably take to long to make. You could get away with going up through training, but controlling warships no.

Quite hard, for Halo 3's engine that is. Remember, this game is coming out in 2010. New technology and a new engine. It is very possible that we could be apart of, or at the very least see, a massive space battle. I would very much like to see that.

I hate you so much...

But not as much as I hate the internet.

The xbox.com page for Halo: Reach says we will follow the events that take place on Reach as a prequel to the halo trilogy. I can honestly think of no better way to start that game than when the MC gets the mark V armor for the first time and runs the obstacle course. It is truely the quintessential halo opening. It has the "shield test opening" & would fit into the: "you're armor is good to go, follow an NPC around for a little bit, insert some witty dialog, add a little story, & then all hell breaks loose" archetype that that halo 1 & 2 had when starting a whole new story.

Check out The Fall of Reach, chapter 27 (page 246) for the beginning that I am speaking of.

It could be epic. But again... just speculation.

Even If I couldn't control the battle, I'd still love to watch it unfold.

That would be a sweet opening as well, But I was thinking more of when he was a child, or when he gets his MARK IV armor, because he gets Mark V the day before reach is invaded, so I don't think they could get enough gameplay out of one days worth of missions..

Prehaps the covert mission to the pirate asteriod base could be used as a training mission?
You wouldn't have shields, but the mark IV didn't either. So it would be good training for mark IV missions.

Take a look at the banner at the top of this forum.

Who says you're playing as the MC the whole time?

This is my theory... it would greatly extend the game play if we were to say open the game with the MC, Linda, & James, then switch over to Fred & Kelly's team for the ground assault/ brass rescue/ castle base / forerunner discovery's featured in First strike (but during the events of reach).

So how do you follow that up? Same squad based game play based on first strike, leading up to the events in in first strike and/or Halo 2. How do you complete the trilogy? Ghost of Onyx.

Just thoughts tho.

A new Halo Trilogy would rock.

First Game: Events from Fall of Reach
Second Game: All events from First Strike
Third Game: All events from Ghosts of Oynx

Well unless they make a Forerunner and/or Precursor- Flood War game this will probably be the single largest battle in Halo.

Reach was the largest, and bloodiest battle of the war.

Thats me, vile and obsene

I like the big jungle gym thing John had to learn about teamwork on

It would make a good multiplayer map!

I thought about trying to build that on sandbox, but I failed :*(

Sanity is a perception. If you think I'm insane, you need your eyes tested.

Doing a new trilogy would mean a couple of main character changes. Certainly between First Strike and Ghosts Of Onyx, when Kurt and Spartan 3's would be central, not the Spartan 2's from Reach.

'Uneven Elephant' well thats what Johnson called it. Can't remeber the proper name, let alone spell it. The Covenant refuel and resupply station that was in a figure of eight at the end of First Strike. The battle there would be fun. Snipe elites out of banshees and watch an almighty explosion consume an entire fleet.

Maybe not command frigates or cruisers, but what about flying in a squad of longsword/shortsword (I always forget which is which) fighters in the battle? It would still be amazingly epic, and the control scheme could be similar to the banshee. Although it may end up being too much like star wars.

So, You guys are up for the training, but not for the space combat...

  • 06.02.2009 6:13 PM PDT

Sanity is a perception. If you think I'm insane, you need your eyes tested.

Training and space combat are different things. If you mean flying huge ships anyway. As pointed out you could have dog fights with longswords and serifs(right spelling?).
Maybe the fight in the space dock where Master Chief has to find and destroy the nav cube in one of the docked ships before the covenant can steal it and use it to find Earth. That was zero-g.

  • 06.03.2009 5:14 AM PDT

I have the best signature ever, it's just on break at the moment.

I just thought what about after the second trilogy that you guys thought of we could play as Johnson and the Marines in Harvest? Imagine the training excercise where it was Johnson and I cant remember the other dudes name vs the Trainee marines! That would make a great game.

"Marines vs Brutes... the hardest battle yet....."

Unyielding hierophant was the real name. I had to quote that just because it was hilarious in the book. I just hope this game doesn't contradict the novels. My heart would be broken!

Oh and I'd be all for a flying game ala Rogue Squadron only with the Haloverse. That'd be sweet. Not that I think Reach is going to be that type of game.
