The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher regard those who think alike than those who think differently.

I don't see Natal taking over from the controller.
I do see a possibility that it could be used as an optional component for controlling the game interface and maybe a completely optional way to control the characters.

Think about the potential for Machinema. Halo is the biggest draw for Machinima animators who work on the 360. If you could MoCap a character in a custom game it would be absolutely groundbreaking for Machinema artists.

If Reach and Natal worked properly with eachother, it would be the biggest moment in gaming history....

And all the boys and girls of the world would play Halo forever more and live happily ever after...

Oh give me a break save the drama moment this is a forum not some informal counseling chatroom.

"Bungie controls everything. You have no rights. Play nice."

For the last time its TURRETS not TORRENTS. A TORRENT is either a peer to peer file sharing protocol or a violently fast stream of water. A TURRET is a self-contained weapons platform housing guns and capable of rotation. And TURRENT isn't even a word.

Personally I've always wanted voice recognition without a head set. Mostly because wearing a headset over my glasses is mildly uncomfortable. Plus, with its ability to differentiate voices, everyone in the room could do multiplayer chat without a headset.

Is anyone is familiar with the computer term "macro"? Its essentially mapping a series of commands to a key or voice command. If you wanted to for instance perform a series of maneuvers (like board the wraith, then automatically plant a grenade) you could give it the voice command "board bomb" If you had the necessary grenades and a vehicle was in boarding distance, you would automatically board, plant and run.

You could also have macros for reloading, grenade throwing, and even jumping. for fairness these macros would only be available in campaign and not competitive multiplayer, but it would be pretty interesting.

Macros would also make machinima much easier, as you could command each character vocally instead of through multiple controllers.

The possibilities of Natal are endless. I suppose you could map these macros to the D-pad, but their are only four buttons. The D-pad is limited. Voice commands are only limited by how many commands you can remember.

Were it so easy.

I doubt this will work as well as Microsoft is making it out to be. I don't really care about it.

Natal isn't just motion capture, its also voice recognition. I think that some natal compatibility combined with controller use would be amazing. For instance, you could give orders to your marines so that they don't go rushing into combat. You could tell them to fall back so they survive and you can use them later.

You could also have menu selection and the menus be voice activated and used for finger motions.

Natal is not BS. The technology will do what they say it does. We've been getting subtle hints about it for months now. They purchased a few companies that made 3D depth cameras several months ago, and when they did everyone was expecting some kind of controller motion capture thing like the Wii. Project Natal was way beyond what was expected. The technology is sound and has been in development for quite some time. If they keep working on it, I'm sure a lot of games will incorporate both motion and voice recognition technology. Games don't have to be 100% Natal. They can use parts of it combined with controller usage if they want to. That's what I want to see.

PS- I just had a thought. A lot of the time in Halo 3, sometimes you have to maneuver certain marines with certain weapons (like the rocket launcher, sniper rifle, or Spartan laser) into the right seats on your vehicle. With Natal, one of the possible voice commands could be ordering specific marines with specific weapons to get into the passenger seats, and other marines with weak weapons to man the turret. The interactivity would be amazing.
Also alot of people dont seem to realize that Natal is and will be running off it's own processor to do all the heavy lifting so the 360 can concentrate on the game it self and not get bogged down ((also so natal has all the speed it needs))

and Natal actually pics up 3D space using inferred light and such things ((look up how it actualy works people stop being lazzy))

Lets hope not.

Halo is known as a FPS. Let's keep it that way ( for now)

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

I highly doubt that Halo: Reach will be something compatible with Project Natal. Reach, though only recently announce, has been in development from some time in secret, and Natal is still a work in progress. I doubt Bungie knew of NATAL when Reach's development started.

Quake 4 did have voice thing using the Xbl headset, you could tell your squad what to do.

Um... how would that work seeing as how we'll be getting a Beta of Halo: Reach with ODST?

I'm sure Bungie wouldn't make us buy Natal just to play a Beta, that would be absurd.
