Read the books...read the books...read the booooooooks....I see lots of speculation and misinformation here people. Be informed on the story. Stop guessing...Read The Fall of Reach...Those who know don't say...those who say...don't know...sort of.

For those who have read, ok cool...I am reading The Fall of Reach again...just to be sure on the story...lol there is a lot of info too almost to much...

Chapter 5 is my favorite....

Go Rams and Missouri!

What annoys me is when people suggest that Reach is the planet in Halo 3's ending and say that Chief either went back in time or they don't understand that Reach was destroyed.

The time is stupid because I would hate that, but it is possible.

truth, the books should be read - buuutttttt

We have to remember that bungie will NOT make a game that is specifically catered to those who read the book, it's gonna be for everyone. We can't bank on the fact that it's gonna be perfectly true to the novel.

I have read the books, but was bungie in collaboration with the people that made them to help them out along the way, or did they just wing it when they wrote them?
I thought bungie helped out.

Yes, they did. They closely monitored everything to make sure that it fit in with the Halo bible (a book with a collection of every story item in the Halo universe, but not in as much detail as novels, just short timeline events).

I thoroughly agree, people should read the books or AT LEAST the Fall of Reach to enjoy the maximum Halo experience.

For those who want another reason to go buy Fall Of Reach and read it you watch how the SPARTAN project came about and the MJOLNIR project. You also follow John as he grows up into the super soldier he is today. I'm currently half way through it and it is completely awesome. I'm glad it's official too because the story fits in so well and has a really Halo-esque feel to it.
