While perusing through the Halo 3: ODST Field Guide I noticed that some enemies have certain smells associated with them. Scent visor maybe?

GRUNT (Unggoy)

Short and broad bipedal arthropods. Known to speak several human languages. Have a distinct vomit/manure smell about them.


DRONE (Yanme'e)

Tall, flying multi-limbed arthropods. Rapid clicking vocalizations. Have a slight musty odor associated with them.


JACKAL (Kig-yar)

Tall and lanky saurians. Most of their vocalizations may be described as barking or a ratchet-like grunting. There is a salty, occasionally acrid, smell associated with them.

I wish I was still legendary.

I can see there being some form of scent trails you can filter to see somehow, like how dogs follow scents...basically, a floating trail showing you where particular enemies have been.

I am of an open mind and I am willing to hear criticism. Also: That's stupid and you're stupid.

That would be pretty useful. I would be able to detect foreign smells of various types of enemy troops before barging into a small area.

Lol. Yeah, that would be a very interesting feature. It would be helpful to know that there are two hunters right around the corner before charging them.

I think this idea will be implemented since the Halo 3: ODST Field Guide makes the scents given off by certain enemies important. Combined with the more stealth oriented game play, it may be an option to hunt your enemies down by following their scent trail.
