Subject: What Aren't There Elites?

To answer your question: Yup, I was naked!

To those who haven't player Halo 2: At the beginning in New Mambasa, Elites are still fighting the humans. Its not until the end of Halo 2 when the elites join the humans

Anyone else miss fighting those split-lipped bastards? I sure do. So why not in ODST?

As I recall, in Halo 2, there were no Brutes in New Mambasa (and if so, not very many).
So why not take this chance to let the player fight Elites again?

What do you think? Would you rather fight Elites in ODST, or Brutes?

Yeah, I just spent like 15 minutes petting one, trying to get it to know me.

Elites. At least in the first part, for old times sake.

Man cave.

I never played Halo 2 so correct me if I'm wrong, but at this point in the story, weren't the elites on your side?

Aren't elites umm... "good guys" after Halo 2? Also, if you crave elites, just wait for Halo: Reach. Bound to be tons of our favorite reptilian foe.

Map guids, Training and a great community!

Going by the timeline we should be fighting elites as this took place before halo 3. This also occurred before the elite/brute break up within the covenant.

I missed this,
bungie said that that right after the split sreem space thing the prophet sent in the brutes to scout new mombassa

Going by this the elites were regarded as the best by the prophets. So the elites would of taken priority so they went to chase the chief while the brutes remained behind. This also makes sense as this is before the covenant break up.

I remember reading somewhere that there aren't Elites in the game because they haven't arrived on Earth yet, but this game takes place after their split from the Covenant. So who knows, they might make an appearance, but I think Bungie's said they won't be in ODST at all...

Still, all that aside, I wouldn't mind putting a few rounds into one of 'em for nostalgia's sake.

Thats a lame excuse. I want my elites, damn it!

  • 06.02.2009 11:19 PM PDT

You can fight them in Halo 3 if you want, it's just that they are kinda tough to kill, especially the arbiter...

The Elites left with Regret and were replaced by the Brutes and their new equipment.

I seriously hope that we get to.

I miss that essential part of the Halo trilogy so bad. I spent some of the greatest of my video game experiences tea bagging dead elites on legendary. Nothing is more powerful of a 'halo' image than fighting elites. And if so, a Halo 1 physique would be even more incredible.

One can only hope...

Dang, I was way off. I guess this game takes place during the beginning of Halo 2, according to the Halo wiki. Wow, that is a lame way to phase Elites out of the game, then.

We might fight elites in the firefight mode because its a multiplayer mode and doesn't follow the story/timeline.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't all the Elites stationed on Earth during the invasion leave with Regret, and isn't this taking place during or close to the time where the Humans befriend the Elites and stop Tartarus?

ODST is a campaign expansion and prologue to Halo 3 which will bridge a gap between Halo 2 and Halo 3.

Why fix what wasn't broken?

Elites WERE in Halo 2. ODST is DURING Halo 2, so it should make sence that you fight them, right?

No offence to Bungie, but I think they were just too lazy or couldn't make elites your main enimy.

What about the elites on New Mombasa that survived the blast and got left behind?

Uhh no. ODST takes place between Halo 2 and 3. It fills the gap of information. That's the fact you're not getting.

Or better yet, what about the flashbacks? Isn't that the exact same time as Halo 2? The city should be crawling with elites.

Edit * actually im not sure whether the Dutch sequence was 2 hours before the drop or after. The non-exploded city makes it seem like before, but wouldn't make sense for him to already be on the ground before the rest of the squad either. Really confusing actually, Bungie needs to add a time stamp like in 24 or something.

It kinda sucks, but I think that Bungie dropped the ball with the whole elite-brute change-over thing and didn't really do Halo 2 perfectly. That's my guess, as it is never fully explained why we fight all elites on earth in Halo 2, and then suddenly brutes are everywhere. The Halo 2 E3 2003 trailer would make sense, since the brutes drop into the city during the gameplay video.

But ODST is basically that video, fulfilled into a game. So I guess we just have to connect the dots.
