Thats right.

I was just wondering, since New Mombasa is reduced to a large excavated crater by the time Halo 3 begins, do you think it is possible that there will be some sort of escape level near the end of ODST?

Don't base whether or not you buy a game on its graphics. Gameplay and how fun it is are what matter most. Not the textures of the grass that you will never need to look at!

I would assume that the ODST's would try to get out of New Mombasa before it gets glassed. We'll just have to wait and see.

maybe, in my best guess, i'd say a nuke of somekind went off, or the covenant planted their own bomb to get the excavation moving a little quicker, and you'll have to escape the blast radius.

*not official info, just my best guess

There are many powers in the world, for good or for evil. Some are greater than I am. Against some I have not yet been measured. But my time is coming.

A climactic escape seems to be a consistent theme of Halo.

Well that's stupid because its a open word game so when you beat it...you couldn't go anywhere else..

Not all open world games play that way. I doubt you could keep exploring once the campaign ends, unless you start a new campaign.

Bungie called it a open-world game [a sandbox game] so technically you are supposed to be able to explore the city or the rests of it after you finish the game.

This has to be right because otherwise you might not find any "hidden objects" for achievement's ect and you wouldn't be able to get them once you have completed the game if the city gets blown up. Although they did say that some cool stuff happens in the end.

Wayne Jarvis, Attorney at Law; I have a responsibility to tell you that there is no candy in this office.

Technically, I think it was just Halo: CE, and then they did one in Halo 3 as a throwback. So maybe it's not a constant thing.

EDIT- Forgot to quote someone.

What's a Halo game without a huge escape scene?

And by the way, New Mombasa wasn't the huge crater where the Ark portal was. You can still see the towers of New Mombasa in the distance from Voi.

Master Chief escaped High Charity, didn't he? It's still an escape even if there isn't a timer.
Also Halo Wars had a big escape timed level.

could be a lil like GTA, ya could have to travel to your missions, and at the end, ya can walk around and do side missions, and if new mombassa gets glasses at the end doesnt mean you wouldnt be able to go anywhere else, it most likely wont be the only location.

i think twice is enough of the escape race. a boss battle is hopefully out of question. as for the final level, i dont know.... im not creative. hopefully bungie has worked up something good

Yeah I thought so too, but I read this in the Halopedia wiki. So I don't know what to think.

It was in this area that the Covenant began digging in the area of what was formerly the city of New Mombasa, where a Forerunner artifact had been partially uncovered by the in-atmosphere slipspace jump of the Prophet of Regrets carrier during the First Battle of Earth. The Covenant's excavation revealed and disclosed what was then thought to be the Ark, but eventually turned out to be only a portal to the Ark.

I'm pretty sure that means Mombassa is toast.

I've been playing Halo since 2002. My earliest memories include hiding at the shotgun window on Damnation and killing my dad with grenades while playing co-op on Pillar of Autumn.
