Halo: Reach if you have read the book is not about ODSTs, the protagonist is Master Chief

"By 2552, many of Humanity's Inner Colonies have been destroyed by the Covenant and Reach was next. In a move of desperation, the Office of Naval Intelligence Section-3 SPARTAN division orders the execution of a secret plan to capture a Covenant ship using their SPARTAN forces and find their home world in order to capture a Prophet, one of their religious leaders, and then use the Prophet as a bargaining chip to negotiate a truce.

To aid the Spartans in this mission, an AI, Cortana, is created based on a younger Doctor Halsey. John is introduced to Cortana during a live-fire mission to test their capabilities working together, and they perform spectacularly. With Cortana's aid, John manages to overpower a full squad of ODSTs using live-fire rounds, pick his way through a minefield, destroy automated chainguns attacking him, and even evade an airstrike.

Every Spartan-II except for Gray Team, because they are too far away to be easily recalled, boards a specially outfitted Halcyon class cruiser known as the Pillar of Autumn (under the command of Captain Jacob Keyes). The Pillar of Autumn moves out towards the edges of the system to make a Slipspace jump to begin the mission.

This plan, however, is interrupted when a massive Covenant fleet of over 300 ships enters the Reach System. Captain Keyes orders the Pillar of Autumn back towards Reach, but the Master Chief convinces him to allow the Spartans to continue their mission by finding a damaged Covenant ship to capture and take to Covenant space. Reach's fleet, about a hundred ships and twenty Orbital Defense Platform on hand, engages the Covenant fleet, but takes massive losses. However, the Super MAC platforms manage to repulse the initial Covenant assault.

The Covenant return and land troops on Reach with the objective of destroying the generators for the Super MAC Cannons, the only things which are stopping the Covenant. At the same time, the UNSC realizes that the Circumference, a Prowler, is still docked at a station orbiting the planet of Reach just before its fall and has not initiated the Cole Protocol. John takes Linda and James to deal with the Circumference, while the rest of the Spartans were sent down to the planet to defend the Orbital MAC generators.

The Battle of Reach.John's team crashlands their Pelican on the station which the Circumference is docked on, and they move towards the NAV data. However, James's thruster pack for maneuvering in vacuum is hit by a Needler shard and explodes, sending James flying uncontrollably into space. John and Linda proceed to the Circumference, where they find Sergeant Johnson and his Marines, including Jenkins and Bisenti, also fighting to wipe the data. With John's help, the Marines are successful, but tragically Linda is shot by five seperate plasma blasts. The humans fall back to the Autumn, but Linda dies of her extensive wounds and is placed in a cryotube. The humans are also unable to locate James.

The surface of Reach is also overrun. The Spartans which John sent to the surface are presumably overrun and all slaughtered. Without the generators, the Super MAC Cannons fall silent and are destroyed by the Covenant, who soon proceed to begin glassing the planet. The remaining UNSC ships are all destroyed, except for the Pillar of Autumn, when Cortana plots an exit vector in compliance with the Cole Protocol, though not completely at random. She had decrypted Forerunner glyphs found by the Master Chief on Sigma Octanus IV. The NAV coordinates led the Pillar of Autumn to what the Covenant had been searching for: Halo, an extremely sacred Forerunner artifact. The book ends with Captain Keyes looking through view screens at the ring talking to Cortana about it. After the jump they orbited a giant planet beside installation 04 before the Covenants external and internal battle, The Pillar Of Autumn."

Reach is 20 years before halo 3 meaning most of those ODSTs would still be in grade school. So either those are some REALLY big 5 year old soldiers, or it isn't about ODSTs
Actually the battle for reach took place in 2552. It's entirely possible we would see an ODST in the game, but i highly doubt we'll play as one. SPARTANS were pretty much the only defense on Reach apart from a few platoons (most of which were entirely wiped out). So at least if we don't get to play as a SPARTAN we'll definitely be seeing them in the game.

Halo Wars happens before Reach by quite a bit. and ODST begins before Halo 3. Whether it ends during the events of Halo 3 isn't known yet.

So the storyline actually goes Halo Wars - Reach - H1 - H2 - ODST - H3

its not about ODST its about master chief and before halo 1. all those people are is old squad members i have the book Fall of Reach in that book every one dies exept him

"There's a very fine line between not listening and not caring. I like to think I walk that line every day of my life."

There is no way that Bungie is going to make a game about Reach and not make it about the Spartans. It's basically this: Spartans=Reach. If Bungie make it about ODST's, then there's no point. It's like if you made a game all about Italy in WWII. Of course, Italy played their part in the war (like the ODST's did on Reach), but they weren't the main focus.

You have it wrong. Reach takes place within a week of Halo CE and Halo 3 takes place 1-3 years after Halo 1. I can't remember.

Read First Strike. More than just MC makes it off of Reach. Linda was also on the Pillar of Autumn but she was critical and in a cryopod. Also the team that was with Dr. Halsey made it off.

This is hilarious, Halo Reach is about ODSTs.
Read the book, Halo: Fall of Reach.

I see you

I hate Rupert Murdoch. This may permeate into my posts occasionally

Why have a game about ODSTs when you could have a game about Spartans? Makes no sense from a developers point of view.

And its not "100% obvious", its just speculation

  • 06.03.2009 1:02 PM PDT

Halo>Allothergames

thos cant be about odst's the only humans that survived reach were spartans Dr halsey and maybe an ordianery like 2 or 3 (maybe 4) ordinary humans

I abolutley positivly disagree with you. I think the game is starts out with you being a spartan training for a while and then you flash the the current time on reach. I think the main part of the game will be about defending the planet of reach. If this is what it is about then you will see master chief for sure but you wont play him because in the battle of reach he is onboard the space station.

Without me, it's just "Aweso".

Yes but only 4 humans survived Halo 1 the Master Chief and Sargent Johnson an officer and a regular marine. So no it is not possible for the ODST's to be the main characters of Reach.
5, Linda kinda survived. And Reach is months before Halo CE, due to the fact that slipspace can take a long time.

dude just shut up, you dont know -blam!-, the're are still 5 spartans left NOW, as in while mastar cheeef is floating in space in half a frigate, Fred, Kelly, and Linda are in the core of Onyx, and Mike and Ahreiana, are the only spartans that are still fighting the Brutes, If the brutes are still fighting without their prophets. BUT WAIT should i count the Spartan III's that are stuck with Fred, Kelly, and Linda.i dont remember how many o f those little guys their were but i think it was 4. so actually there is 9 spartans left..

Forever there shall be war, thus forever we shall fight...

Nobody has gotten the game chronology correct as of yet, so here.

Halo Wars > Halo Reach (educated guess) > Combat Evolved > Halo 2 > ODST > Halo 3
