Subject: Why Time Travel is Implausible.

Without me, it's just "Aweso".

time travel is trueee
star trek says so ;)

I'm detecting a hint of sarcasm there.

And I hope I'm right about that.

Have you ever made something good out of something bad? An example would be making a good porridge out of a bad porridge by removing all of the maggots and replacing them with rice.

or maybe john travels back in time from the end of halo 3, only to be glassed by the covies on the surface of reach.
END GAME
wooo great game bungie!

ok basicly what happens in the books is after master chief finishes fighing the convent on a mac canon he goes back to the pillar of attuam( at this time there are spartans on the ground or head to the ground) at that point the have to leave on a random trajectory which is a cordanat that they found in a messege being sent to a covent ship from a previous mission.
this trajectory takes him to the first halo. so after geting off the halo he ends up finding his way back to reach with a couple of marines and sargent johnson ( the end of halo 1 in legendary mode is way off) so they back to reach and the end up going planet side and rescueing the other spartans and dr hasley. they then go on a mission to sabatosh the covenants flet which then leads into halo 2.

the period of time between halo 1 and halo 2 is only like 6 days.
there is no need for time travel in the story although there are acounts of time distorsiton after they find a rock on reach.

if you want more information read the books

"We sleep peaceably in our beds, because rough men stand ready to visit violence upon those that wish to do us harm."

"Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of all those who threaten them."

Since you were so accurate, I fixed some of the errors for ya.

Status: Prepared to GTFO

- Suggestive Spoilers -

Personally, I believe that time travel had nothing to do with Chief ending up somewhere else. According to the current definition of slipspace in the Halo universe, the currents, "eddies," are likely the sole reason as to Master Chief's displacement. Chief probably was thrown off course by means of no navigation, however not by case of FTL.

- And the reference to 343 about him and chief meeting before was likely a general statement as to that of all Humanity (Reclaimers/Forerunners).

You're over thinking it. There was a Delorean in the Back section of the Dawn. Chief cranked it to 88 and VROOM! At Reach.

I don't dismiss the Time Travel theories pertaining to Halo 3/ Halo Reach, but we don't have any proof yet.

I'll admit that I've yet to read the books and that it's been a while since I beat the game. So I won't argue any of those points.

Anyways, I agree that time travel would not make for that good of a storyline...but I have one thing to point out. Almost everyone who bashes it seems to think some of these theorists intend for the MC to meet up with everyone on Reach. Now I know most of them aren't that intelligent and just jump on with everything, but for those just trying to prove plausibility, I have to say that there are plenty of other things that could happen: Planets are huge.

Regardless, from what I've read in posts from those I've deemed the more knowledgeable of the haloverse, the game is obviously a prequel about the events at Reach. The books have contained characters other than the MC. The banner for the site has other spartans on it. Obviously you will be playing as/along said other characters, regardless of whether through some miraculously stupid way the MC fanboys get their way and 117 is featured in the game somewhere. More than likely though, your character will be the unknown spartan voiced in the trailer. Anyways, sorry for the long post and any off-topicness that might have occurred in this last paragraph.

They1re 500 years ahead of our time I think somewhere in the middle they could have thought of a plausable way to travel through time

I think it would be cool if after you beat the game and watch through the credits, you get to see an extra scene of MC traveling back in time and landing on Reach after it's already too late to do anything.

wha?

  • 06.25.2009 7:48 PM PDT

Well technically we have already discovered time travel but going forward and backward is two different things well here's and example of what i mean say there's a car that goes 60mph for 60min. that car will travel 1 second into the future this was discovered in a space shuttle going so ever fast had determined that they would meet there destination in such amount of time but they got there a day or so before but maintained the same speed, how was this possible, many scientist wondered and this is the conclusion that some came to is that time is like a circle where we all travel around the circumference of it but if we go at a high enough speed it bends creating a "short cut" so this is a proven theory but about going back in time theres no clue how to do that

And dying from lack of supplies and atmosphere?

Err... perhaps you need to check out the theories of Relativity again, because nothing you said was true.

And thank you so much for posting this, op. I am sick and tired of the people that say that they have "proved that the MC time traveled".
But you know what the biggest proof of all is? The fact that Bungie said that Reach is a
SEQUEL.
And if the MC from Halo 3 went back in time, even if Reach takes place before Halo CE, then it would be a SEQUEL.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

Honestly, a better explanation for why Master Chief's and Cortana's half of the frigate did not end up near Earth would be due to the fact that we know Mendicant Bias (or some other renegade entity on the Ark... but that would imply MB) was able to breach the portal's security protocols.

It is because of this that people consider Mendicant Bias' last terminal entry of "I would have my masters know that I have changed, and you shall be my example" literally, in that he deliberately altered where they would exit.

Additionally, the idea that Spark has met MC before is contradicted by at least two facts:

1. Guilty Spark introduced himself to Master Chief as if they had never before met...
2. Guilty Spark mentions during "The Library" that he is glad to see that "some of them were able to reproduce". Clearly, he is not talking about the Flood.

Spark's comments of familiarity toward John were collective statements about his race. For whatever reason, Spark thought John was a Forerunner, and would have known about Halo's true purpose (Spark seems confused as to why he didn't know when John confronts him after hearing Cortana's explanation of Halo).
