Subject: Halo Reach is not Halo 4

Every Halo related forum seems to be making the same mistake and jumping to the same conclusions about Halo:Reach. Many have already assumed that this is in essence Halo 4 and in turn will offer similar gameplay to what we've become accustomed to in previous Halo titles. However, Reach is a prequel and by no means a continuation of the previous Halo trilogy story arc. Therefore it can pretty much be classified as a totally different Halo game providing a unique MP experience. Well. unique in the sense that certain gameplay features that have existed in previous games will be seen for the first time in Halo,

Like I've mentioned in previous posts, I am fully convinced that Halo: Reach will be a class based shooter. If anyone is familiar with the Fall of Reach novel of which this game is based on you would know that the above image is that of the various Spartan classes that were mentioned in the book. (the one on the left is not an elite :P ). So instead of it becoming Halo 3.5 I can see Reach simply expanding upon the Halo 3 engine while borrowing elements from other AAA titles such as COD, TF2 and Battlefield as far as mechanics and map design.

Remember fellas Halo 3 is still in its prime and with a new map pack just around the corner its popularity won't be dying down any time soon. It wouldn't make much sense for Bungie to release a yet another Halo title that resembles Halo 3's gameplay so soon. That would dilute the MMing population. Mark my words people, Halo:Reach will take the Halo franchise into a whole new direction and I for one can't wait to see what new kick *** experiences they have in store for us.

I've already read all of the halo books today you stupid nerd. Plus Halo:Fall of reach twice.

I think everyone will forget about halo 3 once reach is released, it'll be 3 years old by then.

There are those who said this day would never come. What have they to say now?

Halo reach could even be an RTS.

Sounds like a bunch of Justin Bieber wannabes in here. I bet you all wear skinny jeans too.

Seeing as we've heard nothing about this game, it might not really be a prequel. Perhaps just Master Chief flashing back to times on Reach instead of Cortana popping up saying "GRR!" every time you turn a corner?

  • 06.03.2009 11:17 AM PDT

I'm assuming it is a prequel to the Halo series now, perhaps being somewhat more like the original Halo but with major improvements and innovations as it will

I guess we will find out eventually. Roll on e3 2010!

Halo Wars has filled that void just fine as far as I'm concerned. I think Reach will indeed be an FPS, just a different kind of FPS focusing more on classes and large scaled battles (16-32 players) and less run and gun.

It is a prequel. It's based off the book Fall of Reach which traced the events that occurred before and led to the events that took place in Halo: Combat Evolved. It describes aspects of the spartan recruiting process and training program as well as introducing us to various Spartan classes. If you haven't read the books yet I highly recommend them. They'll make you appreciate Halo cannon that much more.

ILL SAY THIS ONE LAST TIME, HALO: REACH IS A CONFIRMED FPS. Go to xbox.com, search Halo:Reach, the game page comes up and under genre, it says shooter. "Shooter" is the same classification for any fps on that website; Halo 1, 2, and 3, were "Shooter"s, and other 3rd person shooters like gears, etc. have a different label. The game is an fps, so be happy and move on ! This is confirmed! REad the other threads~!

Please, i wasn't attempting to suggest the genre, more highlighting the simple fact that the game could be anything, and that this speculation is pointless. I mean, there is nothing to say that this couldnt be a sequel to halo 3, in which sentinels attack a newly rebuilt reach.

Now thats wild speculation.

And i couldn't agree more that this is unlikely to be another RTS.
Personally, i think if anything, that it would be a tactical game in which you play a marine, but this is also unlikely due to the spartan mentioned in the trailer and on the poster.

So, i would imagine it to be a complete revamp of the series, hence the name change to "reach" not "4".

A bit similiar to the removal of "call of duty" from modern warfare 2. The game will be similiar but with a number of apt differences.

No, I've read it. But what I'm getting to is, we haven't heard anything about the game yet. For all we know, the game could have next to nothing to actually do with reach.

I don't enjoy upsetting you. But the xbox.com genre branding is very linear. Also, i think it is more of a presumption of its genre, rather than being entirely accurate. Don't get over- excited.

And to another poster, there is the possibility that this isnt based on the book. We just do not know!

Based on what was shown in the teaser trailer, the contents of the image at the top of the page along with the title of the game itself I'm quite certain that this is indeed a prequel. Also during the E3 presentation of ODST you'll notice that at one point in the trailer the player highlights an inscription on the wall reading "Remember Reach". This I believe is a direct reference to the Fall of Reach as well as a tie in to the Halo: Reach game. Not to mention the fact that we gain access to the Reach MP Beta code when purchasing ODST in the fall.

No it's not. It wouldn't make much sense to release a sequel to Halo 3 merely one year after the final map pack was made available to the public. We won't hear about Halo 4 until MS's next gen console is announced probably some time next year.

Uh....who told you that?

All I've seen is that buying ODST grants you access to the Reach Beta- I haven't seen any information about when the Reach Beta actually starts. It could easily be Summer of 2010 before that Beta happens.

"Forward in the fight for World Domination"

Obviously, actually it shows events between or before Halo Wars and Halo CE

Elaboration is the key to success.

this thread is full of so many retards that its ridicules

Seems to me that Halo Reach is more like Halo 0 than anything else. Although, considering it has been confirmed as a FPS, the working title of "Halo 4" definitely seems appropriate - regardless of the fact that it is a prequel.
