To play devil's advocate I could never, ever tell the difference b/n bots and humans playing unreal2003 and 2004. They both ru n around real freakin fast, they both smack me down, and they both use the same taunts and keyshortcuts to say stuff. And as the way the servers were set up, when a human player left, a bot left, when a human left, a bot entered. I couldn't tell who was coming and who was going. O:-) I enjoyed their ai. And i also enjoyed the ai in perfect dark. Perfect bots anyone?
Granted, the last thing Bungie wants to do is give something for the critics to complain about. And "crappy" AI, being the subjective thing it is, is easy to pick on. Too much time and money. Too late in the game. Programmers build all sorts of "dummy" objects to help prove their code. This was simply a more elaborate example of a programmer adding in basic AI to test physics. Perfectly normal.
