Poll: What playing style will Halo: Reach be like?  [closed]
Very similar to Halo 1 - 3:  40%
(6 Votes)
ODST style:  13%
(2 Votes)
different completely:  47%
(7 Votes)
Total Votes: 15

ODST looks like its got a different playing style to it, similar but still far different than typical Halo.

So I wonder will Reach fall in line with ODST or more of the roots of the Halo series 1 - 3. Im hoping more for a Halo 1 - 3 style. I like the Spartan armor, shield, jumping ability, ability to fall far, etc. The style is fun and contributed big to the success of the Halo franchise.

Squad based, big maps.

I hope it is similiar to Halo 3, with exciting stuff added to it: new vehicles, weapons and whatnot. I also hope that the online will be class based maybe, or something totally new.

I think it will be more like Eve Online with a massive virtual world supporting up to 300,000 simultaneous players over XBox Live and using Natal instead of controllers.

If you ask me, it will be the same as previous Halo games, but have variation in the form of skydiving from orbit (for reference, see the book) and the ability to alter the use of energy of your suit (speed, shields, strenght,...)

I vote for something completely new different and refreshing. More than the usual run and gun.

i imagine it will be squad based but i doubt reach will be because its the spartans homeworld and we all played thru what 1 spartan can do.

I dont know about new and refreshing industry wide, but perhaps something new and different to Bungie and Halo in general. That could be good and bad.

Two things were big attractions to Halo 1 - 3.
Master Chief
The playing style

I think its safe to say Master Chief really isnt going to be a part of Reach. So I think it also may be safe to say the playing style will be much different. That could hurt sales though a tad. Maybe not much but like i said, the playing style for the first 3 Halo's really aided the love it got from fans.

i'm hoping for squad based, you and other spartans fighting huge waves of covenant, levels bigger, longer, and great cinematics

You know, staring at that picture in the banner, I think that almost points to a squad based game like some have said. So in fact, that will be completely new to the Halo franchise. I dont know how it will pan out though. I like squad based games but over all, I prefer Halo 1 - 3 style. I just felt like I had more control of what I was doing. If it really is a squad based game, I think ill be a little less hyped about it. Itll probably still be good but it wouldnt feel like Halo to me.

Natal will work great because we won't be controlling the actual moving and shooting.

The game will be an FPS but the movement and shooting of our Spartan characters will be automatically controlled by the games AI. Instead of actually controlling the character we will be managing the MJOLNIR armor.

Necessary tasks will be:
Controlling suit internal pressure and temperature.
Managing power distribution between shields and exo-skeletal actuators.
Scrambling radio frequencies according to a complex encryption algorithm.
Plotting way-points for display on heads up.
Deploying Bio-foam for injuries.
Maintaining the suits licensing and warrantees with multiple vendors.

We'll be playing the role of AI within the suit while the actual combat is handled by the game. Our interface will be a holographic type of display within the matrix of the suit. Natal will be perfect for this purpose, allowing us to manage multiple screens and contextual menus through body motions.

I can't wait.
