I'm pretty surprised by a lot of the responses here. I can't see what it would harm to allow the option to be a female Spartan in matchmaking. It's also relevant to point out that I've heard a lot of comments from girls I've played with that they want the option to appear a little more feminine in matchmaking.

I get the part about the armor being unisex. However, I don't agree that you cannot tell a female Spartan from a male Spartan. We're not talking about sitting in a tank, these are plates of armor over a light weight, form fitting suit. Long legs are long legs and a short torso is a short torso. It's the relative proportions between the body parts that we're talking about here. That's not something that dissapears.

I'm pretty sure he's refering to the fact that women are smaller then men.

Actually, Kelly from The Fall of Reach, Kelly is taller than Master Chief from what they explained to be by a full head. Not to mention, she is extremely fast, faster than John. She can run even faster with her armor on.

Sam is the one who is a head taller than the Chief. Btw, I know lots of girls that could outrun some guys.

Over the Rock, Through the bush, nothing but Jackal. Plasma Grenade, Jackal. Jackal, 'Nade. Blue Fire, then lights out. Bye Bye, Snipes.

I actually think that it would be a good idea. Bungie would have to keep the changes to a minimum, though, because they would have to have the hitbox for the head, torso and limbs fit the same way. It's just like all of the people switching their models to Elites whenever they play team SWAT. People have figured out that if you wear the Assault Helmet, your head is not only smaller than a Spartan's, but it is also near-impossible to get a headshot on you from the back without strongsiding.

It's good that you have stated this idea right now, while Reach is still in the "Planning" Phase. Who knows, Bungie might even take your idea seriouslyand incorporate it into the game.

EDIT: spelling mistakes.

There would be no difference if they did.

No link at the characters shown there as being Spartans just because somebody said that.

Can you find me sauce on where Spartan armour is form fitting? From what I've seen, it's not at all form fitting. Samus Aran's zero-zero-suit or w/e it's called is form fitting, but the MJOLNIR Mark V & VI seems to have considerable bulk added on, moreso in Mark V.

It's better to burn out than fade away.

If you played the Halo Wars game you notice that the women and men wear the same armor so yes its Uni-Sex fit for any sex.

Nice picture of female Spartan Armor.

Female would just be slimmer build, possibly shorter. I doubt there would be any change to the "bust" or pelvic region on MJOLNIR armor plates. This may confuse people with hitboxes, or because female characters are smaller they are harder to hit, why would you be a male Spartan?

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

Throughout the life of Halo 3 there have been calls for female Spartan Armor. In fact, at one point or another every girl I play Halo with has mentioned that they wish they didn't have to use EOD armor just to look somewhat feminine.

The arguments against have an armor choice that looks female has generally been, "female Spartans look the same as male Spartans" or, "all Spartans look the same in their MJOLNIR armor". Well, I challenge you to look at the banner at the top of this forum and claim that all Spartans look the same in their armor or that none of those characters look female.

I would like to see "Female" as an armor option for matchmaking in Halo: Reach. I think it would add some variety and would also be welcomed by the growing population of female Halo gamers.

What do you think?
If you've read "Armor Testing" from the Halo Graphic novel, you would see that all Spartan armor is uni-sex and you cannot tell the difference.

Plus, it's not 100% certain that the characters in the Reach banner are Spartans. It seem logical, but one could easily make the argument they aren't.

good idea but bungie has excepted halo wars as cannon

i voted yes but still

Alice is female but in this video you can not tell witch spartan she is

if you haven't beaten halo wars don't watch

Do you really care? you can't automatically see my signature anyway.

even if they made a more feminine style armor the hit zones would be thrown off and people even guys would try to use it as an advantage.

No.
The inclusion of the ability to play as elite models in Halo 3 proved to be a bad decision for Bungie considering all the implications of different hitboxes and sizes. They would do well to only include one type of player model in Halo: Reach multiplayer

  • 07.17.2009 10:44 PM PDT

I am of an open mind and I am willing to hear criticism. Also: That's stupid and you're stupid.

I would like the idea of longer legs and a thinner waist to distinguish Female and Male Spartans, but changing the height is out of the question. Some players would try to use that to an advantage.

I hope Elites don't get an option to sound like girls in this game. The Female Elites sound like Female Spartans and it just doesn't make sense to have the Female Elites in battle.

Elites are the same as Spartans, you use this as an excuse for not being able to kill them.

Play a LAN party and this will prove to be true. Nothing is different about the two character models.

Tell that to the thousands of people that complain daily about Elites in SWAT. Having multiple player models is far too much of a hassle and the cons outweigh the pros. It's not worth it for Bungie to allow for Elites, let alone Female armor in Reach.

That's quite offensive toward Spartans! Saying they all look the same..
