Subject: Female Spartan Armor in Halo: Reach Matchmaking

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

I find it ironic that you used a picture from the graphic novel to "prove" your point, when if you had actually read it, you would know they are unisex.

Hell, even in the books, it says many times that all Spartans look that same under their armor.

I have read the halo novels and the second spartan to the right could only be kelly. She is small and super fast. I think that if they had female armor it could take less damage but be way more manuverable and flexible thats what i think.

Ya, either Kelly or Lucy

lucy if i remember correctly is a sparton lll (not on reach) if you mean lindia by lucy then your right
We don't even know that those are spartans on the banner, or if they are, if they're known Spartans.

...true to canon. no they dont need waist reductions or shorter shoulders. because they LOOK LIKE MEN
I don't know what kind of men you're hanging out with.

Maria-062
there's your canon

If you can't tell her from a guy then you don't get to be my wingman when I go clubbing. Men with long hair and short haired women must really confuse you.

Before the helmet came off, did you know she was a girl? I sure didn't. I thought it was MC. So did a lot of people.

Besides, you're talking about shifting ploys for NO GODDAMNED REASON. At first look, no one will know the difference. the only way to make it noticeable in the armor is to exaggerate, and that will likely offend more females than it entices.

The problem here is that Maria was build like a guy; broad shoulders, thin hips, heck, she looked like John until she took off the helmet. But again, just because Maria is built like that doesn't mean all the female Spartans were.

Take the short Spartan in the Halo: Reach banner for example-- It's pretty obvious it's either a woman, or a very shapely man. She's just about the opposite of what Maria looks like, having slender shoulders, and hips that are almost as wide as them.

You are assuming that those characters are Spartans. It's not a confirmation. So, go back, and take a look at Maria before and after her armor usage. Before, she looks like the chief. If you look through the art gallery in the Halo Graphic Novel, the art pieces of her show that, while a little muscular, she has a very feminine form.

Look also at Alice from Halo Wars. Without a service tag, you can't tell her apart. Finally, read the books again. It says many times over that all Spartans look alike in their armor, except to other Spartans and Dr. Halsey. This is because they've spent so much time together, they can just tell who is whom.

They certainly aren't marines, they certainly aren't covenant, the only one that looks even remotely questionable as to whether or not they're wearing MJOLNIR is the one carrying the sniper rifle. No, it hasn't been oficially confirmed, and technically it is assumption, but it's a logical assumption; if you think the sillhouettes (from this thread) look extremely dissimilar to these figures, you need your eyes checked.

Canon follows closest to the most recent game; it's safe to assume that the second figure (going left to right) is a female based off of it's proportions, even if it retcons previous female spartans. Bungie themselves haven't yet released a female Spartan to the public eye, so it's generally safe for third parties to go with what is known and what is safe rather than make something up and hope they don't go against the original creators.

Ninjabag the tea-pirates!

I don't want to join your group.

Would the armour have ribbons or something? What would change about the armour, a slightly bigger chestpiece?

one way to explain is that the augmentation make the female spartans more manish jk

it would make since to do that since there were female spartans and of course they had different physiques than male spartans but wouldthe amount of space taken on the disk for amor perms if they make a female version of every amor

if its just one or two perms then i'm all for it

It's not Hip-Hop, its Electro.... prick.

Being able to identify a girl by apearence in halo would lead to endless tea bagging and sexist comments, not a good idea

Read about my gaming here.

I'm not going to say that I'm for it, or against it. Because I don't care. But I'm going to offer my view on things.

First thing, the banner. All their armors look different. I'm going to go with the assumption that they are Spartans.

First on the left. Bulky and heavy looking, quite tall. He carries a weapon and the bulkyness probably comes from an ammo belt or other equipment.

Second on the left. Standing behind the group quite a bit. Seems to carry a handgun only, Hard to tell the proportions because the it's partly behind the first person. Just because we see one half, doesn't mean we know the other half.

Middle is MC looking.

Fourth is again, a little behind the group and seems to carry a knife. Its armor is again, different if you look at the shoulder pads.

Last, got some kind of backpack, looks like a cap rather than a helmet. Other than that, can't tell much about it.

Their heads all look strange if we want them to be Spartans, but we don't know what they are, do we?

Second thing. The general armors. As alot of people have said, all Spartans look the same in their armor.

It's been said in Fall of Reach and I think it was said in First Strike, a marine thinks to himself he's going to ask one of those female spartans out, if he could ever figure out which ones are the females.

The Halo Graphic Novel does a Metroid on us, first we think it's the Chief, then she takes her helmet of and we see it's a woman. So unless anyone flipped to the last page, I don't think anyone thought it was a woman.

Then there's the non-canon part, DoA 4 Nicole. I know it's a sensitive area, but, she's there. As I recal, Bungie worked closely with Tecmo to get the details right, or atleast they stated they did. Nicole looks like MC to me, so, there's one visualisation. Even though it's non-canon.

Third about the training of the Spartans. They trained really hard from the age of six. All kinds of heavy training. Now, I'm not sure but if I do remember correctly, they were augmented at the age of 14, that's 8 years of heavy training. What's that going to do to the female body? Look at the avarage male sprinter, and the avarage female sprinter. Heck, look at a female bodybuilder without implants. There is really no "wider chests", unless the surgeons thought that putting in some extra body armor in the chest area was in place.

So, a heavily trained female body do look maleish, not a 100% match, but put a gel layer, black rubber suit with armor plates on it, and I really doubt you can tell the difference.

But, as I said, I'm neither against nor for it.
