Hello! I'm Bunie.net's resident medical student (hell i'm sure there are more but I'm the only one who openly declares it!) I love my emblem, and I am periodically active.

As we prepare to return to good 'ol Mark V armour, will we return to the health and shield system we had in Halo CE.
That is, a small actual shield and a few bars of health that were recharged by "health Packs"

Subject: A return to CE shields?

I don't think Bungie wants to do that which is why it was changed. Plus I think I've heard them say they want Halo to be a game were there aren't many long term penalties.

UnitedBands.net

My band and artist networking/information site. Check it out!

good question, we'll have to see, that would be interesting if it went back to having health bars, that could add another strategic item (health packs) into MM.

What?

Possibly, though the Spartans on Reach received upgrades in the UNSC base, meaning we may possibly see a variety of permutations sometime in campaign.

if bungie follows the timeline order, then yes, the old sheilds will be back.

  • 06.03.2009 1:26 PM PDT

I really hope so.

Hopefully Bungie has realized what they did wrong with Halo 2 and Halo 3 and we return to the better style of Halo play with fall damage, faster killing speed, faster strafing, and a more skill-based MP experience.

I don't mind the Halo CE shields, but I'd rather not have the health bars.

Halo CE was a lot more strategic, with the conservation of health, are they lookign for mroe strategy?

  • 06.03.2009 1:30 PM PDT

Halo isn't about that type of strategy. At least I don't think it should be.

  • 06.03.2009 1:31 PM PDT

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

I hope not. Seriously, there are you die-hard fans who love Halo : CE, and Halo 2. But as Bungie progressed with their games, they got better at making them. (Some disagree here)

Anyways, Halo 3 is the most successful of the 3 Halo's. Because of improvements to the games multi-player.

Rechargeable shields is great, and it should stay that way. Think of the problems some would face with team games. Not enough health canisters for everyone, some taking a health canister when they don't need it just to ensure they aren't at a dis-advantage when going 1v1 with a player.

Halo 3's shields are win.

I guess halo is just a basic, yet fun, run and shoot, could regenerators take a part in thise more, as in they recharge rthe blips as well as shields.

I could care less if they get one little detail wrong. I hated the old shields, because I am so used to the new armor.

  • 06.03.2009 1:36 PM PDT

Lets Get Some

I agree the new sheilds are better.... and if you guys like the old sheilds...
Play halo CE instead of halo 3 or ODST

I arent arguing for or against the new shields, im justb saying, will the return to the shields that corospnd with the armour.

  • 06.03.2009 1:42 PM PDT

I hate how Halo went from being about great gameplay to appealing to the masses. Bungie got greedy IMO, and made Halo more dumbed down. Especially with taking out the health packs and fall damage. At least they could have had your shields drain when you fall. That's why super jumping and all crap happened in Halo 2.

While I know most people don't like the old shields, I hope they return to make it fit into the timeline since the Spartans are wearing Mark IV.

The Risk Is Worth The Reward.
Cry Havoc And Let Slip The Dogs Of War.

Meh I'm good either way.

Are they wearing Mark IV? I thought it would be Mark V since John117 wore that on the Pillar of Autumn and that was just after the Fall of Reach.

I really hope so as well as health again. Back to shields though, I would imagine the CE shields would be back if not that would be completely stupid.

Well if Reach switches to the better, Halo CE style of shields then you can just go back to playing Halo 3. Hows that?

  • 06.03.2009 2:01 PM PDT

b.p

I dont think the old sheilds will work well for multiplayer.

The old shields are better. You actually have to use strategy and think before you jump. It is the older suit so it WILL have the older shields, there is no way Bungie could change that and say , "oh well they got the suits upgraded." The only way you are going to see the shields upgraded(even though it isn't necessary at all) is if the game is so long that you get to the secret ONI base under the mountain where the Spartans get their suits upgraded with soon to be Mark VI software.

The shields would work for multiplayer because they worked for Halo 1 and Halo 1 started the series because how good it was. You don't hear anyone complain about Halo 1 because it was superb.

No, that is not the reason. You can thank Halo 1 and Halo 2 for that reason. And the blind faith of fans like me, that keep hoping that Bungie will return to the core game play elements of Halo 1... sigh.

What halo did not have rechargeable shields? And the health packs respawned just like weapons. This was not an issue with Halo 1 MP competitively, and would not be if they reintroduced it.

Actually, I think we'll have Mark IV, seeing as how Mark V wasn't given out until later in the battle. I think. I just want to see what Mark IV looks like. Halo Wars doesn't count.
