Link.

Console RTS fans will be disappointed to know Bungie's upcoming Halo: Reach project will in fact be a first-person shooter.

Gaming blog Joystiq got word of this important detail when they asked Microsoft Corporate Vice President John Schappert.

Schappert simply proclaimed "Of course it's an FPS."

Perhaps this means Microsoft is done experimenting with the Halo franchise and will be keeping everything FPS from here on out?

Well that makes me happy. The last thing I wanted was a MMO, or a RPG. Halo is best as a FPS, or at least in my opinion.

Who said it wasn't an MMOFPS.

If it was anything other than a FPS my interest would have dropped significantly.

add a horn that says "!%*@ BILL O' REILLY" in Austin Powers' voice, and
I like how if anyone ever says a nice thing about Bungie people think all they want is Recon, and if someone says something bad about Bungie people join with them. And then after they get done bagging on Bungie, they go play the game that Bungie made

I don't think it means an end to different genres of Halo games. It just means that Bungie has found out what they're good at and they don't want to change their style when making such a big blockbuster game. You don't screw around with games of this magnitude.

Corporate has been known to get things wrong in the past though... either way I'll be happy with the game though.

I think Halo Wars wasn't as successful as they hoped it would be, so I could understand sticking to a FPS format from here on out.

this game is going to be amazing.

That would apply to me as well.

Excellent stuff - I would have been gutted if this was anything but an FPS.

I Blame Stosh!

u no,, halo could be kinda cool as an rpg, you could go where you wanted, fight where you wanted, and the best part, its in first person, imagine that, a first person rpg, still though it could be kinda cool.

The FPS franchise is with whoever took over Halo Wars from Ensemble....why would bungie do one?

  • 06.03.2009 2:42 PM PDT

Very good. Another Halo game. Excellent.

That's the thing. You're in the military, you won't be able to wander around and do what you want. You will be ordered to go places. That is why halo will never be an RPG. Oblivion is an RPG because it's oblivion, it is set in that world.

Might want to edit that one :)

This makes me happy.

Forever there shall be war, thus forever we shall fight...

Bungie barely even talked about Halo Wars until the Legendary Edition of said game was announced.

This game might be any kind of FPS, we'll just have to wait and see.

FPS is First-Person Shooter. Halo Wars is an RTS, or Real-Time Strategy game. Stupid acronyms, I know.

  • 06.03.2009 2:56 PM PDT

It's kind of weird that they would announce that so early and just a few days after the announcment trailer. I wonder if whoever told IGN that was just bull-blam!- them...

There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬

"I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence."

I expected it to be an FPS, in the end almost all Halo games have been. However, I was hoping for it to be a bi different from the previous games, so it had some sort of originality. However, I think there is still some room for speculation.

The term FPS is kinda broad. Okay, so we know that we'll be playing from first person perspective and shooting people, but thats not a mass of info is it? There's still a chance that other aspects could be involved, as long as they aren't too closely linked with other genres (Otherwise it might end up being called an Role Playing First Person Shooter or something)

Some FPS game have had small aspects added to them that have greatly chnged gameplay but kept it as an FPS (For example: Rainbow Six, with the squad). I greatly hope that Halo: Reach will have something that makes it noticably different from a standard FPS, such as a squad or massive battles (Like in Battlefront). Who knows, but lets hope Bungie have some creativity.

Halo RPG=Halo Wars. Halo MMO=Massively Multiplayer Online, which is basically Halo matchmaking.

Halo Wars is an RTS, not an RPG. And an 8x8 game is not a MMO.

It was going to be an FPS from the moment they announced it. Bungie is best at FPSes, so they aren't going to try making anything different.

Exactly. Halo is, and always will be, synonymous with FP Shooters.
