Subject: ODSTs using the AIE-486H (Heavy Machine Gun Turret)

Anyone notice that the ODSTs have been using the Machine Gun Turret in the videos? And I don't mean on the stand, because there's nothing strange about that. I'm talking about them walking around with a dismounted one. Anyone else find that odd? I mean, I'm pretty sure it's been stated multiple times the Spartans and Elites were able to because of their immense, brute strength. But these guys are not supersoldiers or aliens, so why exactly are they able to do it? Thoughts?

They're incredibly strong. ODST's are hand picked for a reason.

The AR is an awesome weapon, RESPECT IT AS SUCH!!!

honeslty i dont know, there have been plenty of threads like this and the only explanation that i have heard that makes sense, is that it is a lighter version of the turret...

Elite 3000 was HERE >:)
Master Chief looked up at the Brute Captain, the Brute Captain looked up at him. Master Chief quickly aimed his rifle at the Brute's head and said, "LOLOLOL GTFO MY ROFLCOPTOR j00 N00b! LOL"

Believe or not, you actually play as Arnuld in his Mr. Universe years. By that I mean
They be pumpin' steroids like it's the Olympics.

and how!

I'm hoping that it will either only be in Firefight or it will be for a very limited amount of time, because it just...ruins the feeling of being a regular soldier to me.

I'm guessing you will not be able to rip off the turret, you will only be able to pick one up when it has been destroyed. The recoil will probably be worse as well.

I thought about that, but then I think I remember seeing an ODST pull it off the stand. I may be wrong about that part, but still. And seeing it in Firefight might not be so bad, but I really hope it's not seen in campaign.

I'm sure the armour enhances their strength, this is after all to 26th century.

  • 06.03.2009 3:02 PM PDT

Incredibly strong is not the same as supersoldier.
@ Wolverfrog: No, the armor they wear is not strength enhancing. I don't know if you've ever read the books, but the armor worn by ODSTs is the same armor worn by the Spartans during their infiltration mission into the asteroid belt, and there was no strength enhancement. It works like your basic (future) marine armor, except it provides heating/cooling to stay off of IR imaging.

"When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give EL1TE SUPR3MACY lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Looks like this heavy machine gun turret isn't so heavy after all.

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

ODSTs just wear advanced ballistic armour that's vacuum sealed, I think.

My mistake. But as for the vehicle flipping, that may just be a gameplay necessity. Warthogs are prone to flipover so I would expect Bungie couldn't get away with leaving that out.

Self-proclaimed genius.
Roam the streets with a sign, "will love for false hope."

I just made a revelation about it earlier. A single marine does use the Flamethrower in Floodgate. To very poor effect. It's supposed to be a big, powerful, bulky thing. Which is why the turret is mounted and the Missile Pod was mounted in The Storm. But, looking at Firefight, I noticed something extremely important.

"They were unlucky enough to start the waves with Wraiths." So what does the guy who got on the turret do? Pulls it off and runs away. Bungie was very careful in their decisions not to allow you to dual wield or use equipment. So why would they allow you to use turrets? It's fully logical that an ODST could use a turret. It's not logical than a Spartan wouldn't use it well and be slowed down with it.

Knowing that a turret is a very effective tool but could randomly get blown off the mount by a random shot, Bungie decided to keep the ability to pick them up. A perfectly good compromise when you think about the random waves in Firefight and how weak ODSTs already are.
