According to microsoft the Xbox 360 is a much more advanced system and will have a much longer life cycle than the origional Xbox. I kind of agree due to the fact that the Xbox 360 can be expanded so much further with the use of Downloadable content and upgrades. Sony believes their consoles live on a 10 year life cycle which is why they are still supporting the PS3.

Overall, what I'm trying to say is Halo Reach WILL be on Xbox 360. Microsoft has made it pretty clear that the earliest we'll see a console is at least holiday 2011.

The slater that has started will cost countless lives.
The slater that has started will create untold story's.
The slater that has started will not end with a bang.
The slater that has started will end with a unheard whimper

Halo:Reach may be a FPS-MMO launch game to Kick-off the next xbox games platform from fall 2010.
If you look on games job sites thier is a in-house team ad for a networking job for a 300,000 player title for the next-gen xbox platform.
On Major Nelson's pre E3-2009 podcast his co-host E said they were already working on the next dashboard before NXE was released.
First-Gen Xbox was on sale from November 15, 2001.
Xbox 360 was on sale from November 22, 2005.
Next-Gen Xbox will be on sale from November XX, 2010.
Game console HW has to be Locked Down 18-months before release say MAY-2009 plus the HW problems of the X360 would have forced more final testing time for the locked down HW so it may have been a feb-2009 locked Down date more than enough time to torn Halo:ODST tech in to a next-gen MMO a launch game.

Sony has the PS2 as a budget console then has the PS3 as a premium console.
Microsoft is stoping it's premium console the Xbox 360 Elite thus alowing the Xbox 360 60GB to become the budget console & the next-gen Xbox to become the premium console.
Microsoft did say that Project NATAL is only for the current Xboxs and future Xboxs.

If you look in any games shop PS2/PS3 Dual Releases happen all the time with the PS2 being seen by Sony as their device in a home that has lots of good games to play but leaves you wishing for a PS3 every time you go to your pals home with one that's what they did with the PS1.

My bet would be E3 2010 will fallow the same basic script as E3 2009 to reassure owers thant there consoles will be supported in the futre but instead of revealing NATAL they show Halo:Reach running on xbox360 then after a video showing it will be out on xbox360.
Boss of xbox walks on stage and says "we can make the game better" then a part of the stage opens (that looked of no importance until now) reveals the new retail ready HW then promo video kicks in showing it will be out on xbox360 & next gen xbox after he say's "There will be more latter but that is the end of the show"
doing this kills the show like this year then they make TGS 2010 all next-gen xbox with a apple like "it's in the Shop's November" reveal

it would be ridiculous if they released a new console and had Halo: Reach beta for the 360... would not be logical.

I hope not.

I sincerely hope that Microsoft does something similar to Sony in making a Slim Xbox. the new PS2 is the smallest console ever, and the easiest to transport.
I would buy an Xbox Slim if it had; less power consumption, smaller power brick; More efficient cooling system, less fan noise; obviously a slimmer form factor, easier transportation. The trick would be getting the Xbox to still look good.
Either that or make an Xbox portable like the one they alluded to when Microsoft said the Xbox team was splitting to work on a separate project. Overall I don't think they will be making any new console for awhile considering the Xbox 360 is still very advanced for todays standards.
There will always be things that need fixing in a console as new technologies are created and enhanced. For example, Blu ray disc. We should look at the practicality of making an entirely new system for features verses making an entirely new system that will revolutionize the gaming industry.
We already have the consoles that are equipped with the technology that will likely stay consistent for awhile.

With Microsoft showing all these new features and such, it would seem quite foolish to make us spend another four hundred plus dollars. Especially if someone wasn't sure about what system they wanted, only to find out the hardware they just bought was outdated. Reach will most definitely be coming to the 360, didn't you see the xbox 360 logo at the end ? :P

Well I'm guessing because of Natal, Microsoft won't be making a console in years. I'd hate to buy another console lol! Most likely Reach WILL be on the 360.

but the beta would be on the 360 so it would be a waste of time to do that

  • 06.03.2009 6:35 PM PDT

they wouldn't annouce a game for a system not announced yet - look at halo 2.

i do agree with that but microsoft is multi-billion dollar company and microsoft would only lose 69/75 profit on a continental scale

There are no plans for new console until 2015.

There has been a lot of speculation lately related to the period the three big console makers would begin talking about the development of a new gaming device. Analysts have stated that the current economic situation, paired with the research costs associated with the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii, means that the three big manufacturers will not reveal new consoles until at least 2013.

Now, Microsoft's Shane Kim has bluntly stated that We firmly believe that the Xbox 360 has a life cycle through 2015, basically announcing to the world that all speculation should cool off for the next three to four years. Sony has made similar statements, talking about a ten-year life time cycle for the PlayStation 3. Nintendo is the only company not putting forward any estimates for the Wii and some even believe that an HD ready version of the console is being worked on.

It's interesting to take a peek behind the motivations for Shane Kim's categorical statement. It was made in relation to Project Natal, the new motion tracking interface that Microsoft unveiled at this year's E3. It came as a surprise, as the implementation is very different from what people have been expecting from Microsoft in terms of fresh technology. Natal has been created using both in-house breakthroughs coming from the Research & Development division of the Redmond-based company and acquired technology from the acquisition of firms like 3DV.

And the software giant is looking at Natal as transforming the nature of the Xbox 360 enough so that it could be considered to be a whole new console. Once it is released, probably in 2010, Natal will enable developers to create other types of games and will make the gaming device feel fresh, some sort of version 1.5 of the Xbox 360. Its lifetime is set not to end before 2015.
