What you are referring to is a revolver, not a magnum.
A magnum is a magnum because it fires magnum ammunition, which is just like any other round of ammunition, but with a larger casing and more propellant.
A magnum revolver cannot be suppressed because the cylinder that holds the ammunition doesn't have a perfect seal, allowing gases, "muzzle flash", and sound to escape both from the cylinder and the barrel.
An "automag" that uses magnum ammunition [an automag referring to a handgun loaded from a magazine inserted into the grip of the weapon] can be suppressed just like any other handgun and there are magnum weapons with suppressors available right now, in modern times.
EDIT: I would just like to say, if you don't know anything about firearms, don't say things that you come up with as fact, it just spreads ignorance and makes you look like a jackass when someone who knows what they are saying comments.
You sir are a breath of fresh air, actually knowing what you are talking about, I greatly appreciate it.
