Well sort of Reach is set in the future (I mean after Halo 3) here's my theory. The giant forerunner planet the chief was drifting towards is actually a time portal. As it activates at the end of Halo 3 it knocks MC back in time via a wormhole? As he is knocked back in time he is blasted into the location of Reach at 2552 during the planet's battle for survival. As MC and Cortana is blasted back into the past Cortana wakes him and the fight begins. After that MC creates a alternate history, learning from his previous mistakes at Reach he leads the humans to victory at reach and takes the fight to the covenant, changing the tide of the war. Halo: Reach "start a new fight" lol.

That theory is actually not so stupid... But humans already won in Halo 3, why would MC go back in time again?

A victory *sarcastic laugh* I dont know about you but I don't call hundreds of colonies destroyed, Earth half razed, and unknown pockets of remaining loyalist waiting to attack "a victory".

Just call me Najar.

then the past master chief would have seen future master chief, and that would appear in the book i dont know, but i give you and answer... NO

look, if something goes to the past it actually doesnt goes to the past, because it was there when the present thing was going to return to the past because in a future past it already had gone to the past, and it was already in the present...?

damn the time-space is really confusing lol

Halo: Reach is a prequel, confirmed by xbox.com(mircrosoft). If Chief goes back in time to fight Reach again, then Bungie will need to remake Halo1, Halo2, and Halo3 again to follow the story of them winning on Reach.

Time travel really doesnt make sense. If I go back in time to yesterday at 4:00pm bring myself back to the future before I went into the past grab the version of me and then go back to 4:30 before I came back to grab my original past...see you are already confused, there would be millions of me for every second. Physically impossible.

Time Travel is possible but in the case of what happened with Chief, it is not possible.

Now I realize some of you might say 'the other chief' in that time frame, but think of this theoretically speaking that's not possible because when you go back in time its not just your entity, its your whole existence and the things that evolves around you come with you.

hmmmm where have i seen a thread like this one before i wonder if any one has used the search bar lately.hmm

Actually, this sounds kinda crazy, but it could work. Think about the Star Trek movie for a second. What if it's an alternate timeline of the Battle of Reach!??!?!?

I see your point, but time travel in the halo universe is just rediculous.

That would be incredibly cheesy and stupid. I wouldn't put it beyond Bungie though..

So is a dyson sphere, but they still put that in there.

I'd also like to point out that we have not resolved that plotline yet >:(

I love star trek, but they are more frustrating than bungie. so many half finished stories just floating around out their.

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

This is what I think of the idiotic idea of the theorized 'Time Travel'.

Simply put, its stupid, and would kill of the whole story of halos 1, 2, and 3.

Probably the most ridiculous theory i read today.

  • 06.03.2009 11:45 PM PDT

The surface of Reach was glassed shortly before the events of Halo: CE. Recall the Supreme Commander of the Fleet of Particular Justice saying "It [the Pillar of Autumn] fled as we set fire to their world" (I believe that's roughly the correct quote) during his questioning before the Covenant High Council. The Reach described in the trailer is occupied by human forces and defended by an orbital defence grid. Thus, this is Reach prior to the original Halo game.

If you can't Rap then Don't
Don't you dare even try it to be honest.

The only other Spartans alive during Halo 3 were the ones trapped in Onyx Which is the Shield World

REACH WAS DESTROYED RETARD.

There was no other Spartans in proper fights than Chief as the other's were trying to find a way out

There is no way that it can be set on reach as the planets been glassed and the heat stays on the planet and no one can even set foot on it without tiring instantly

No. There are two time theories that makes sense.
One is where you can only do what your future self does (what you described)

that time paradoxes occur

Look! A distraction!

I'm pretty sure that this is going to be going back to pre-Halo 1 (think around the time the events of Fall of Reach took place.)

Note how in the trailer it's Halo: Reach. Falls 2010. At first, I thought this was simply a clever way to say "fall 2010" (which it may be as well) but then I remembered that the prequel book for Halo was entitled "The Fall of Reach." It could be that Bungie is doing games based off of the books now. (which raises a new question: will a movie come with it?)

edit: I'm thinking the game progression may go sort of like this if Reach is successful: after Reach a game would be made based on the events of First Strike (or a game based on the non-Master Chief events of The Flood first) and one for Ghosts of Onyx. Who knows, it may go further, but it depends on if enough money is made on the one before it.
