Subject: M7 SMG: Has Bungie finally found the perfect spawning weapon?

For years the debate has raged on. From the M6D to the Halo 2 SMG to Halo 3's AR vs. BR tug of war, halo fans and developers alike have toiled over one particular aspect of MP gameplay. A change that initially on the surface may seem like a simple variation tweak but in actuality has a tremendous impact on how the game is to be enjoyed by the masses.

Now with Halo:ODST on the way we're introduced to yet another spawning weapon. Although it is restricted to campaign and firefight play only, one can't help but notice that it seems to offer the best of both worlds due to its effectiveness at close range while also sporting a scope thus making the gun useful at medium to long range in terms of damage and accuracy.

The M7 SMG may not possess the appeal or CQC dominance of the AR nor place as much emphasis on headshot proficiency as say the Battle Rifle, but it does appear to be a gun that can offer enough on both fronts while avoiding the negative impacts that seem to have been associated with Halo spawning weapons of the past.

So what do you guys think? Could a weapon such as the M7 SMG actually settle this debate once and for all?

Yep

The BR/AR debate will rage on past the ODST SMG. The Scilenced SMG isn't going to be in Multiplayer.

I miss Halo. Maybe Halo 4 will change that.

Edit: Lol nope

I believe it would be awesome to have, and is pretty wel balanced. But this would mean that the AR and BR would only feature on maps and specific gametypes.

I am going to lube your butt hole with nacho cheese and -blam!- you with a crowbar.

I wish it would happen, that would be a kick ass spawn weapon.

Who knows? I doubt they will add it in to Halo 3, but maybe it or something like it will be the spawning weapon in Halo: Reach Multiplayer.

Drink up baby, stay up all night.
With the things you could do, you won't but you might.
The potential you'll be, but you'll never see.
The promises you'll only make.

Indeed. I'd love to have The Super Rad Awesome Pimpin' Poppin' SMG as a spawning weapon.

Yes I know but the real question here is whether or not a gun like the M7 would have the potential to serve as the ultimate compromise to the whole starting weapon debate.

This is an unbalanced weapon and mainly because you can't dual wield.

This thread has no relevance because this weapon isn't in matchmaking...

The Assault Rifle is still the perfect starting weapon.

Just be glad we don't get the Automag in matchmaking...

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

That or an AR with a 60 round clip and infra red scope.

Are you retarded? One, noobs dual wield. Having a dual wieldable weapon does not make a balanced weapon. Two, The Automag would be AWESOME in matchmaking!

Vancouver BC, Canada.

The SMG is a mighty fine weapon.

"Your an idiot." - Oh, the irony...

There was actually a thread last month about how the AR wasn't working well as a starting weapon. The key improvement that the OP suggested was a longer range for the AR, but tuning its power down a notch.

The M7S SMG does this almost perfectly, and looks sick doing it.

Yes, I am retarded. Thank you for being an arrogant jackass.

Dual Wielding is in matchmaking, ODSTs cannot dual wield. So the reason the SMG is souped up is to provide ODSTs with basically a weapon capable of performing the role of two SMGs without the need for two. <.<

Are you a retarded MLG fanboy? Oh, see what I did there? The Automag performs the same function that the Halo 1 and Halo 2 pistols did. It has a scope and can fire as quickly as you can press the trigger. It's a modded BR, essentially. That's exactly what Halo 3's perfectly balanced matchmaking requires.

God, I wish people would just use their damn brains.
