I haven't seen an Elite in ODST, i've only been seeing Brutes. What's with that? Completely backwards.

The Elite betrayal hasn't taken place yet, so I'm stuck wondering this sudden swap.

Brutes weren't even an enemy until the later episodes of Halo 2, it's weird to suddenly have them in mass on Earth a day or so after MC left.

Anyone?

I heard the reason was because the Prophets were already trusting the brutes more then the elites so they got the brutes to stay behind instead...I dunno tho

Drink up baby, stay up all night.
With the things you could do, you won't but you might.
The potential you'll be, but you'll never see.
The promises you'll only make.

Well. There was this one time before the Elites and Brutes decided to kill each other.

It's weird to not face Elites, yes. And I prefer to hear that familiar "Wort! Wort! Wort!". But meh. It's acceptable that we're facing Brutes.

In one of the E3 videos for Halo 2 it showed drop ships unloading Brutes onto the city. Let me find the video.

As a Phrophet, if you were to leave a ground force behind to occupy a hostile city for an unknown period of time would you sacrifice your greatest and noblest of warriors and endager yourself in the battles to come with their loss, or let loose the packs of nearly feral, expendable, brutes to do what they do best, brutalize.

I wish I could understand your point of view, but I can't stick my head that far up my ass.

Who knows? Maybe the Brutes got their armor right before the Schism and were held at a slightly higher respect at the time.

Bungie already explained this in one of their updates a while back. The brutes haven't taken over yet but it is part of truth's plan for the brutes to take over. Brutes are dumber and follow directions blindly, whereas elites think for themselves and can't be controlled as well for Truth. he wants total control of the covenant and making the brutes the main force will help him achieve that, this is the first step towards that.

but the Prophets had eventually planned to betray the Elites, if you take into account all that stuff listed in portals 'n whatnot. If that were the case, they would leave the noble with expendable Elites to attack, and save the Brutes to better their chances when they overthrew the remaining Elites at Delta Halo. eh?

Go to about 6:30 in the video and you will see Brutes in New Mombasa during Halo 2.

exactly. Bungie threw that level together 6yrs ago meaning for it to be a demo showcasing nearly everything new in Halo 2.

This is why I don't like prequels that much.

Y'see, once somebody does a Heel Face Turn, its kinda hard to get them back to doing villianous... stuff in any prequels.

which means they meant to have Brutes occupying the city as well as Elites. Maybe you will run into Elite packs elsewhere in the city. We simply have not seen much of the campaign to make a call.

i'll remain hopeful that we'll run into some sign of Covenant civil war. But if Bungie had the idea of putting Brutes in New Mombasa they would have implemented it the first time around, in Halo 2.

You got to remember that Bungie was pushed by Microsoft to launch the game in a certain timeframe. Maybe they were planning on having Brutes but could not put them in within the deadline.

Wasn't it just Truth who had the dealings with the Brutes [in contact harvest]? Regret, who's forces attacked earth in Halo 2, still relied on the elites for personal protection [Halo Wars] and military functions while the brutes still held their second class role within the covenant so in any military act, at that point, they would have been treated by all concerned parties, not just the phrophets, in the context of that role.

So, the Brutes would be the natural choice for a suicide assignment holding a city on a hostile world while the more important members of the covenant (the Prophets AND elites) caimed a ring, somewhat similar to the doomed front line infantry role the brutes assumed in Halo Wars when the covenant first encountered the flood in that game.

Besides, overthrowing the elites was only spurred by the unforseen death of Regret. Even if he saw the brutes as being more important to the Hierarchs schemes, Regret certainly wouldn't have made preparations for those plans since he had no idea that it would be around Delta Halo that they would have come to fruition.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Brutes are easier to kill and have much worse AI. Much easier to kill. Much worse AI.

I suppose that you think that the Turrets in Portal have much better AI's than grunts in the campaign?
