could an ODST drop pod survive a water landing

Perhaps. I mean, the ODST is vacuum sealed with his / her own supply of air if necessary. However, the drop pod would be toast and might not open as it should.

Yeah, wonder if they float though.

I really doubt it. It's made to fall out of the sky, not float in water. So the drop pod it's self would probable hit the ocean floor, but the ODST inside might be lucky enough to pop the hatch and pray that his helmet wouldn't leak under all that pressure.

Depends on whether or not the supply of oxygen provides enough buoyancy to allow it to float.
But, carrying a mega heavy soldier and the pod itself at a mass of 870 kilos, I severely doubt it would float.
