Admittedly, trailers that Bungie doesn't use the in-game engine for often lie, yes.
But trailers are known to show the beginning of a game, since you don't want people to know the end of the game going in.
I'm willing to bet there's actual info in there. And I'm willing to believe that Bungie is aware of how many plotholes that, if the trailer was meant to show what happened on Reach, they created.
1. Covenant don't jump into atmospheres of planets; that's heresy.
2. The Covenant had to get past the Orbital Defence grid first, which did give them a rough time for a good while.
3. They didn't begin glassing for a good while.
Those are just three I can think of immediately. So the trailers, I'll agree, are not meant to be true in the most literal sense.
