Halo gameplay dictates you start with the most generic/worst weapon, and gain the better weapons by controlling a certain area. I have seen threads were people talk about it possibly being class based, but if reach has the same core gameplay (which im betting), there is no way it could feasibly be class based.

That doesn't really make sense, sorry. If Reach doesn't have the same core gameplay, then it quite easily COULD be class based.

Your "betting" has no real impact on how feasible something is.

Because its Halo should be the only reason needed

Halo Wars? Just because it strays from the FPS genre doesn't mean it's no longer Halo.

thats fanboyism, just because its halo doesnt mean it has to be more of the same. classing things could be an interesting concept, they could even allocate the armor types to the classes, CQB for close combat specialists, scout for snipers, recon for Spec-ops, EOD for heavies and mark V or VI (depending on the armor level of the spartans on reach at that time) for standard infantry

This thread is for discussion as to if Reach could be a class based game. Please leave your opinions of other titles at the door.

"Because it's Halo" just isn't good enough for me. Personally, I can't see Bungie straying from the tried and tested FPS that we know and love, but there is always the possibility that they are going to branch into something new to add appeal to the game while keeping in the FPS genre.

They're doing it with ODST, and the banner picture above obviously shows 5 main characters, each wielding a different weapon. Is it SO unlikely?

Sigh. You win, I was just trying to be friendly. Halo odst is an alternate kind of Halo, no spartans no mjolnir, except in the multiplayer. To me class based indicates games such as CoD. I dont think Halo will go anywhere near that type of game, especially when there are Spartans getting their fight on planet-side. Sorry if I angered you by expressing my opinion of another game.

What the hell is a Shishka??

Well, I wouldn't buy it if it was class based.

Halo: Reach is a shooter, Not sure what type though.

No, don't get me wrong, I'm not annoyed, I just don;t think that your opinion of how good or otherwise Halo:Wars was is relevant here, especially since it wasn't even made by Bungie.

It does sound very CoD based, and I agree, I don't think Bungie will go down that route. Maybe "Squad Based" would be a better description of what I see as a possibility. All 5 of you, moving together, and switch between Assault, CQB, Demo, Sniper etc with the D-Pad.

sorry man, i hate calling people fanboys, but comments like "its halo and thats the only reason needed" are fairly fanboyish, halo expanded very well into an RTS, so why not closer to home with a tactical shooter? i like that idea, and more of the same will be a huge disappointment in my view

Good old tactics, always been my strong point. I would like to see a republic commando style of Halo. The more I think about it the more I regret making a sarcastic comment because the Spartan on reach fight together. Whereas the Chief had to learn to fight alone. Perhaps it will not be class based, but you are the leader and get to choose the types of spartans you want in your team before each mission? Half way?

Reach hopefully with be a Battlefield type game with a big war going on. Not a team fortress type game.

Wielding a double-bladed chainsaw, wearing a potato sack on your head and spinning around mindlessly is amiably quick at getting anything done

Wow. Alot of people here sure are afraid of change...

I'm hoping it's class based. Something new would be nice. Hell I won't complain if it ends up as an RPG or another RTS.

yeah but Bungie didn't make Halo Wars.

I would really be upset if they changed the core gameplay of a Halo FPS game into a class based game. Bungie has always been innovators when it comes to gameplay, and it wouldn'y make sense to be imitators of class based games. With the game physics and medium pace of multiplayer, I just can't picture a class based Halo game working.

However, I can see you playing as different Spartans in campaign with unique traits.

IMO it would be retarded for bungie to try and fundamentally change the MP

dont try to be team fortress

be halo

I want it to be Bungie. Bungie means change.

I'll let them do the decision making. If they want it to be class-based, they'll do a good job out of it. If they want to retain the normal Halo gameplay, they'll refine it.

Till all are one!

Here's a thought: Why not have both!

Just as there exist playlist for things such as slayer and objective, their could be separate playlist that are class based.

No one has ever done both in one game before. This way gamers who tend to stick to class based games can enjoy Halo: Reach.

Including both systems by separating them in their respective playlist takes away nothing from the tried and true formula that is Halo while adding a whole new dimension to what we've come to expect from a Halo game.

A class based Halo game is actually a cool idea.

I dont like that ^^^

Reminds me too much of BiA. Like I have to micro manage every position and it annoys me...
