I have been longing to be a video game designer since I was 14, now 24... I still have the same desire. My question is do you have to have extensive knowledge of C/C++ and or game or graphic design to work or get hired into the bungie department (forsay game tester)?

More so do I need a college degree, AS, BS, so on...? In computer science! I know that would make getting the job much easier and I know Microsoft / Bungie is well established enough to be picky as to who they hire ( aka the best of the best!) and why. Where you say its grueling sitting at a computer for 8 hours plus starring at code or trying to find a glitch, I find fun! I'm a nerd in that way and proud to say so! The mental reward for knowing you solved the problem is amazingly great! I have taken self teaching C+ coarses, html, and other simular computer related coarses, and when I go back to college had planed on persueing a degree in graphic or game design. If I could get a start on my desired field sooner though would be awesome...

I am also excited to see your next weeks article considering my artistic skills surpass anything else I am good at or would become good at... Basically saying my Specialty, is in ART! I have a very rare talent and want to put it to use. I say talent because it takes many people many years to have the artistic abuility I had when I was 14, and now 24 I far surpass that! Thanks Frankie and any helpful pointers on things I could do to be a future employee of Bungie would be much appreciated, like art portfolio and/or testing my computer abuilities!

Wow... I am 14 and I have to beg with my parents to give me five more minutes to finish off The Maw. I couldn't even imagine getting paid to do something like that! Anyways, if I do become a tester, I'd be testing Halo 4. I think that the only other job that pays you to have fun is being a pilot. Anyone got any advice on which job I should choose? My high school plans focus on computer sciences but I already have some experience flying ultralights (my uncle lives on an airfield).

I'm open for suggestions.

How about you all try to be a tester, and miserably fail! Then I take the part of not only being able to test at Bungie, but work there as a full time job. These are dreams, might I add, but dreams that mean things to me. I just need to know what coarces I should be ready to take in highschool. What kowledge of what should I have. Tell me these, and I'll be right on it.

The moment I read about this news, and I applied this job.
I'm have long been waiting t oget into video game industries. I'm a recent graduate from U with computer science specialized honor degree. And I even took a few AI (game AI) courses and a compute graphic course, so that I could have chance to get into a video game company. Bungie is definitly my top choice. Its just if a big company like bungie would hire a fresh graduate instead of people with few years working experiences >_<

ok honestly, i dont think half of you realy get what a game tester does. they arent just playing the game to see if it is a good game, the whole idea of testing is analasys of the game.

I have just recently began to learn C++, which i belive the base code of HALO and H2 is, And even if you are staring at long strings of code for only an hour it will either do 2 things to your brain.

a. You go into shock and just fall half asleep not really getting anything done.

or

b. you get so into tune with it that one hour turns into about 5 and you look at you computer clock and see that it is about 2 in the morning and you go oh -blam!- what the hell happened.

So it is definatly not all fun and games, (pardon the pun)

+ I have about a 3.75 GPA going into junior year in high school. I Have taken year old SAT tests and i have been averaging about 1350-1450. Even with fairly good SAT scores and good class selections (honors and AP) I would have to get up to at least about 3.9 or 4.0 just to get into a good coledge where I can A) Get a degree in engeneering and B) learn the proper languiges that i could even be considered for a really good engineering of programing job.

You can't exactly ask on a forum to be a Bungie tester. You must apply for the job and work hard to get in. Nagging won't get you anywhere

Sorry about this. I couldn't edit my previous post for some reason.

What major should I choose and would a PhD in Comp Sci or a related field help getting a job at Bungie or another game studio?
