With more info about Halo 3 ODST and the announcement of Halo Reach at E3 this year one thing seems to be quite clear. Change is imminent. Master Chief is no longer the main character. The gameplay mechanics more or less now resemble a game that feels much more like Halo:CE (at least in the case of Halo 3 ODST, where you take fall damage, have a health bar and a scoped pistol). The story seems to be shifting from one persons perspective to the perspective of many soldiers fighting the covenant war, and in game tactics seem to be shifting towards squad and team based stratergies rather than run n' gun tactics.

How do you guys all feel about this? Do you like the new direction the Halo series is taking? I personally love the new direction the series is taking, I love MC but ever since I read "The fall of Reach" I have been craving to play through the Halo universe from a diffrent perspective, to expierence the events of Halo through someone elses eyes, and ODST and Reach are going to provide that chance.

Heated debate is welcomed but no flaming please!!!

Halo: CE > > Halo 3 > Halo: Reach = Halo 2

Well, we really don't know what change they will be taken with Reach. But i do not like the direction they took with Halo 2 and 3, from Halo 1.

You say tomato; I say potato.

I remember hearing Joe Staten saying something to the effect that the Halo universe was built so stories could happen. I think the idea for side plots have been bouncing around for a long, long time now. I like the direction Bungie is going and I hope they really flesh out the Halo universe.

i think that odst is not similar to ce (but i dont know what they mean about stamina)
as much of a halo geek i am i dont realy care about master chief, its a very successful franchise, and im looking forward to reach and odst (i hope they dont screw it up, halo wars wasnt by bungie but that kind of destroyed the halo universe
we could always nuke everything and start over

It's good to see the majority of people so far support Bungie in the direction they are taking with the Halo series. Do you guys think that Reach will carry on the changes that ODST has put into place? Or do you think Bungie will give Reach an overhaul and reinvent the series, much like the changes Halo:CE went through to get to Halo 2 and the changes Halo 2 went through to get to Halo 3?

"Life's a Beach"

I really like the Halo series, so I'm so excited about Halo ODST and Reach. I voted not really sure, because I don't know what changes are going to be made, and am kinda confused on Reach's storyline/ when it's taking place. Overall, I'm supporting Bungie to make changes like these, after all, you don't know if you like something until you try it!

If you are confused about Halo: Reach's setting then read "The fall of Reach" by Eric Nyland. It is set before Halo: CE and the events in that book lead right upto the first few seconds of the first Halo game. It is a magnificent read, and can be picked up very cheap via Amazon!

I will wait and see what ODST is like, and If it's good, then I will definitely be looking forward to reach. If they you different classes of Spartan's though, then I hope they make a good job of it because sometimes it's hard to get right.

Proud frenchie, elite fan, anthro artist not hellbent on yiff convention/pics/whatever, mature and intelligent forum guy, 4chaner, halo 2 lover and halo 3 hater.

all what's left is... elites and covenants. a game dedicated only to their point of view.
now that'd be badass.

Hey, thanx Vexinator! I'll be sure to look out for the book. As for the poll, I think Bungie is doing very well with ODST, and now I'm starting to think that Reach is going to be great as well.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

I hate the direction they took the gameplay and story execution in Halo 2 and 3. Not sure about ODST yet, though it looks like it has more elements from H1, it looks like it will play better than H2 and H3. Let's hope REACH has a feel more like H1 than H2/3.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Halo 2 and 3 felt like their own separate games from Halo 1 when it came to gameplay, I hope Reach plays more like Halo 1 did. (less importance on "BR Domination" more importance on weapon division between teammates)

If you are talking about a more story-driven direction once again like in the original, then yes, yes I am!

To be honest H1 was the best Halo game. H2 was a big hit, but I didn't enjoy it as much. I bet if H1 had live more people would be playing it (once again - look at H1 PC, more people play that than H2v and probably H2 on the xbox combined). I like the back-track-like direction they're taking. Actually I love it. It makes me want to play the new games as much if not more than I did when H3 when it came out, and I'm just as hyped about them as I was about H2. The BR is the most annoying weapon I've ever seen and I miss the original pistol. I'd love to get rid of it and get back to the original balanced weapons of H1 (sniper pistol combo ftw). I love Bungie for this.

Mythical Group

There is no greater catharsis than arguing on the Flood.

How can I say no to that lovely statement you've wipped up? It makes my mouth water. XD

Anyways, I do really want to get into this larger scale that they are creating, but at the same time, reduce it at moments to something the size of four on four. Of course, I'm sure this is sort of how the battles fought out. Think, there may be a large ground war going on the surface of the planet, but another fight fought on a freighter, from hallway to hallway there may be secluded action, where small conflicts are fought. So basically, I expect a mix, focusing on a protagonist, and his company, or their gigantic surroundings.

I also like how Bungie can support multiple games in development now. The forecast calls for more Bungie, and I like it.

im really into it!!!!! i dont just want to be MC anymore, i want to be another spartan, odst, marine etc.! i really like the idea of expanding the halo games into much more than playing as a walking tank ,but experiancing the game through someone elses eyes- superhuman or not.

I'm pretty sure they were developing ONI and Halo: CE at around the same time.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Halo 2 and 3's campaign were serious weak points in the series for me. So I don't mind the change, i have been wanting to fight in Reach from the beginning.

ONI was developed by Bungie North or something.
