Couple of things I am wondering about.
1) Fuzzypuffis asks: If rankings aren't meant to be a trophy, why show people what their rankings are and why have leaderboards? you could keep everybody's rank hidden and still use it to match people up....
Bungie responds: The rankings are designed for the vast majority of players, literally, millions, to be matched against players of similar skill. Leaderboards simply show off the top five or ten most elite players because frankly, people are curious.
I add: You have said that the rankings are not "trophies" (as Fuzzypuffis noted). If they are not trophies then why have them visible? Fuzzy also gave a good way to hide them but have the system itself use them to set up the games so they are equal in experiance. Appears to me that that first question was not answered.
As for the leader boards, you reply that you have them because people are curious?? why not then just admit that they are used as trophies??

i also had that idea, i hate going into MM with my friends and having them tell me i suck cus i havent had time to level up yet, when i wanted to play with my friend pbx, he thought i sucked, but i convinced him to let me play, i was a level 1 in TS and he was a lvl 14 and i got about twice as many kills as he did!
if u want to get rid of standbying and cheating, hide the levels
i used to see peeps with halo's for their levels (lvl50) now the highests ive seen is 35
good job on fixing the standbying 8^)
i just think it would be nice to hide the levels so that you dont feel discouraged when losing to a level 5 when your 15, and it would encourage more people to play with eachother, if they wanted their level, u could put it on bungie.net for them to look at
now i see why u leave them, is so you can compare with your friends to see who you want to play with, --- IM CONFUSED 8^(
