If you read the info at the bottom of this Page you will see that Health Packs are making a comeback in H3:ODST. I was not a fan of them in Halo Combat Evolved and was happy to see there removal and prolonged absences in H2 and H3. I do understand the idea behind Health Packs for the ODST troopers because they dont have the MJOLNIR recharging armor but I'm still not sure if I will like them returning to the game. What are your thoughts?

i think it'll add a whole new spin on gameplay, you can't just run in and shoot because of no shields, now you have to pick your battles because of a health meter.

At least its not Assassins Creed 2, having to visit a Street Doctor every time you get hurt. But I actually liked the Health Packs in Halo: CE, it made it more tactical.

Old School

its really to make the ODST's seem weaker. plus the spartans have augmentations that when theyre shields are down, and health is hit, their health can "recharge"
tbh im not bothered about health packs, they'll be all over the city anyway. if not, and ur struggling, just play on co-op :)

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

I think you should try to avoid getting shot.

93% of statistics are lies. Formerly Xfire Grunt. Unfortunately, you can't change the WLID for your BNET account, so I had to create an alternate account. My other WLID was spam city (and it was my e-mail account too).

You will probably only feel weaker on "Firefight", the Campaign was probably designed with health packs in mind.

I think there cool. It will add a new dynamic to game play for sure.

I think its brilliant. It requires more tactics than just duck behind cover for a bit. Something that is the case with almost all FPS's out at the minute. Desperately searching for health not only broadens the experience it most likely will cause you to stumble on easter eggs as you search.

Umm....How are health packs realistic at all? Realistically you should be incapitated once a shot penetrates your armor (and have slight regenerative health abilities to wear off "shock" from bullets pounding on your armor + light bullet wounds on arms/legs).

The COD Veteran (nor normal/hardcore) where you die from a significant hit is pretty realistic, Rainbow Six Vegas (1 shot and you are almost dead) is more realistic, and OPF2 where if you get hit by 1 bullet in the arm or leg its wounded, and you cant use it = most realistic.

Health packs = just as unrealistic as recharging health, if not more.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Finally doing something right.I like the halo CE elements that have made there way back to the halo franchise.

well, now in this game you are a "normal" human, you don't have Genetic Modification or special Armor whit shield.

We're building a better world...all of them, better worlds.

I think ODST will make a landmark in how health packs are integrated into the game. I think they avoided it since CE because it was always clunky. "Oh, look! How convenient! Someone left a healthpack for me in the streets of this alien city."

I think it would be really nice, though, if the stamina thing also worked with how you're playing the game. In other words, if you're having frequent encounters but aren't necessarily getting hit, it would be cool to see your stamina go down. Conversely, if you avoid encounters and spend time resting, it would be cool to see you heal over time.

All the points brought up so far are good. I can understand it adding a new aspect to the game and I guess as long as it's not in the multiplayer (Which it is not for anyone who might have wondered) I will adjust and learn to like it. My main reason for not liking it in Halo Combat Evolved was it being in the Multiplayer

The mark vi had biofoam injectors/distributers that's why you didn't need to find health packs because your armour was one.

I think they are really emphasising your vulnerability as a regular human. Good stuff

I can only please one person per day.

Today isn't your day.

Tomorrow isn't looking too good either.

The reason for Health Packs is simple.

MJOLNIR Armor, from Mark VI and on, has automatic bio-foam injectors, which stop bleeding, fill cuts and wounds, and help hold to togther broken bones and such, in addition to the motor function assistance proided by the suit itself.

An ODST on other hand, has simple ballistic and impact armor, with none of the special doo-hickies - it simply design to lessen the impact of getting hit. It can't heal you.

Not really. You still have your stamina (which is like your shields), but it is less than a Spartans shields, and it recharges as slowly as Mark V armor in Halo: CE. Then, once you lose stamina, you are on your health.

Health Packs are awesome! I hope they still make your screen flash when you pick them up like in Halo: Combat Evolved.

  • 06.04.2009 12:38 PM PDT

Beware the smiley face! =D

I'm delighted to see them back. If you think about it, ODST is more like Combat Evolved than Halo 2 or 3 on many things - The pistol, health packs, sense of mystery and isolation, less linear storyline, more room to explore.

This. Also it allows you to be strategic and set priorities for yourself while playing.
