I dont think a class system would work well in a halo game.
It would be like, "hey, they are controlling that hill in the middle of the map, lets all switch to the sniper class and get them real quick" or "they are owning us, lets all switch to whichever class has rockets." Map and most importantly weapon control would go down the drain. Instead of fighting for a power weapon you can just spawn with it and get to work.
It would be incredibly anti-halo, imo. The gameplay would be limited to what class you choose, and i have no clue what would happen to covenant weapons.
I play halo because i want to play halo, this isnt CoD, TF2, or any other game. This is halo. A class system would change the way halo plays so much, it just wouldnt be halo anymore. Im not saying keep everything the same from the older games, but im saying dont break the halo formula that has worked so well all this time.
A class system would just be a different way to experience Halo. Why should the Halo series be restricted to a specific style of gameplay? If you want to play a traditional game of Halo mp just pop in Halo 3, formula intact and problem solved. Why is it so unheard of for Halo:Reach, which is technically a different title all its own, to offer a unique but equally satisfying MP experience? This was never meant to be Halo 3.5 or Halo 4 and the sooner everyone comes to terms with this the more open minded we can become once Bungie finally makes it known as to what kind of FPS this game is going to be.
