Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Firefight is built on top of the campaign networking model. There's no matchmaking functionality.

Most unfortunate.

This will be the one element that Gears of War 2 Horde has over Firefight.

People keep telling me to get a life... I am getting an education, I have a lovely girlfriend and alot of friends... I thought this was having a life? Gues I was wrong...

Well, I gues an mIRC channel or a forum will be opened on launch day to help players get groups for this :) Either way, I am going to play firefight with a buddie of mine via split screen(Anyone know if they utilize the entire screen in Splitscreen now?) or solo. But Matchmaking would be cool, even though you would get teamed up with people who couldnt hit the sea if they were drowning in it.

what??... no matchmaking?

bungie, run up to your publisher, punch it in the face for rushing you, and take the game off the production line, and put in a matchmaking.. i don't care if it takes a year...make games as good as you can, not games that you can pump out as fast as possible for Microsoft.

i know Microsoft is behind this, they give bungie a time limit, and bungie rushed to finish it and going with the easiest solution decided to not put matchmaking.

i'm really mad at Micrsoft for trying everything they can to make halo a bad series.

When I first heard of Firefight mode, it never even crossed my mind that there would not be a matchmaking component to it. Now, it appears that it will be played with your friends only.

Honestly, I think this is such a huge mistake and I refuse to believe it is true until I see it plastered on Bungie's front page.

Keeping the faith...

Seeing as how other forum "ninjas" propose other ludicrous ideas like dreaming of strapping a saddle to a drone and riding off into the sunset, excuse me if I don't take urk's word at face value.

I would just like to see Firefight matchmaking definitively confirmed or denied in a Bungie weekly update or something to that effect.

The Fight is Finished and the Road to Recon is behind !

Hmm I have to agree.

Playing Gears 2 Horde with random people is always fun and helps when none of your friends are willing to play.

I know it wont happen.. but it SHOULD. I thinks its kinda lazy saying that it can't be done because it's in the same format of Halo 3 campaign.

Firefight runs off of the Campaign engine, so even if they wanted to, they would not be able to insert Matchmaking for Firefight.

Halo: CE Anniversary Achievement Idea
C-C-C-CANNON BREAKER!
Let Sgt. Johnson die on Halo.

Nah, I'd rather play with friends and have a strategy. If I get paired with random people, we'd probably die in ten minutes flat.

ok First off who is this urk guy ? 2nd Bungie is smarter then that , they wouldnt make firefight only coop ....

  • 06.23.2009 6:17 PM PDT

While I am not at any real loss because of this (I only do 1-2 player offline gaming anyway) I still think that no MM for Firefight is probably the stupidest thing they could have done with it.

I wonder, since CoD and GoW both have an online mode to back up there survival will most people even bother with ODST's?

One of the few and the proud, a Mythic Conqueror, I am.

Here is the reason there won't be matchmaking:

Because the Halo 3 engine is the least flexible game engine to date! Think about it for a second. In Halo 3 you cannot rewind a campaign film or make a film clip in campaign. There have been numerous occasions where Bungie has said that implementing a new weapon can alter the game structure entirely. What?!

They have also said that no new armor can be implemented. Feeling a little lack of flexibility in the engine yet? But wait, now there is this! Now suddenly they cannot put a matchmaking system into a "campaign networking model."

Here is a roundabout solution to that problem. Put a matchmaking system in, but instead of going into a game it forms a party similar to the press 'x' function available in post game. Then migrate the party over to the "campaign networking model." It really isn't that hard. Basically, they would be skipping the game portion of matchmaking, forcing the matchmade players to form a party, then migrating the party to the Firefight lobby with a simple "goto" command.

It can be done. Maybe, however, the Halo 3 engine really is that unflexible and contorted.

93% of statistics are lies. Formerly Xfire Grunt. Unfortunately, you can't change the WLID for your BNET account, so I had to create an alternate account. My other WLID was spam city (and it was my e-mail account too).

Yeah make like a friend search and then you can go into a campaign lobby from there. Like it looks for players and you can at least Friend Request them or invite them to your game.

To Get To Heaven, I Will Walk Through Hell.™

Well that's really crap. I work weird hours from my friends so I rarely get to play with them when I have time to. Look's like I'll be keeping disc 1 in the box after I finish campaign.

  • 06.28.2009 11:00 PM PDT

Memento mori.

Oops, didn't see this and I made my own thread on this, haha.... I really want matchmaking for it, personally.

Most illogical.

Seriously, I can't wait 'til it comes out, when the forums are spammed with "WHY NO MATCHMAKING FOR ODST?" and "Wanna play some Firefight?" threads. What was Bungie thinking?

(-_-) Bored Face

I was thinking weapon attachments would be a great addition to Halo. You would press right on the d-pad to add the attachment and again to take it away. The B.R. would be single shot, semi automatic, have pretty good power, and have quick rate of fire. And its attachment would make it 3 shot burst, give it the scope, and increase its range. For the A.R. maybe its attachment would give it a grenade launcher, and they would still bounce.

And look at this too http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=34246004&v iewreplies=true

I highly think that there should be a Halo 3: ODST Matchmaking. My reason for this is because then Bungie could fix all the problems we have in Halo 3 Matchmaking and make 'em so that their not there in Halo 3: ODST. Just like for Halo 2 to Halo 3. They fixed all the Superbounces and the BXR and BXB and Double shot and Quad Shot so you couldn't do them in Halo 3.

Do you know what I mean?

for those 77 people who voted no are just Bungie Suck Ups. No matchmaking in Firefight is pure lazyness from Bungie, when it comes out reviewers will compare this to horde, without matchmaking equals negative aspect for the overall score.
