Of course.

It makes more sense to set it up like Campaign, because it's much closer to campaign that multiplayer. How would I be able to play firefight specifically the way I want to if the MM system controls what map or difficulty level is used?

Besides, it's not hard to simply invite some friends over. Unless you have no friends...

Firefight is built on top of the campaign networking model. There's no matchmaking functionality.

so that's an feature to consider in Halo:Reach ..?

I have to agree that this is a major drawback on a major selling point. Bungie, lack of any sort of matchmaking or game-finding feature in firefight mode will mark a major shortcoming and tarnish on your record. A very poor decision, indeed.

A simple "Host Game" or "Find Match" mixed with the limitations already set up for keeping unwanted people out of your game would work fine for me.

I'm completely re-thinking buying this if they dont have matchmaking for Firefight. Now I understand why people are mad about a $60 pricepoint. Firefight will get ZERO use without a matchmaking component, and I can rent this to play the (already short) campaign.

Imagine Horde without matchmaking, or COD Zombies without matchmaking, it makes no sense. This makes it blatantly obvious how out of touch with their fans Bungie has become. I bet Firefight works well indoors at Bungie when all their friends/employees have copies of the game and actively want to play. Meanwhile out here in reality, getting four of my friends online at once is an anomaly, let alone playing the same game, gamemode and sticking around to make a go of it. You'd think they would've smartened up after they gimped custom games when they released Halo 3

They didn't tell us what it was it could have been anything. Frankie gets scared easy incase you didn't know.

Been here 6 years, been blacklisted 6 times, that's why I'm not Mythic.

THE GAME IS FINISHED. THERE IS NO MATCHMAKING FOR IT AND NEVER WILL BE.

Oh yes, completely useless. Do you not have 3 friends that would play it, or do you also lack the ability to come onto these forums and find three people to play with? I'm sure you're not going to buy it, just as sure that North Korea isn't a crazy country.

And there are other reasons why we don't like the $60 price tag.

Sorry guy, too many good games coming out worth my attention that dont REQUIRE the use of an online forum to PLAN a game session with three other gamers. This just became a rental at best

As has been stated previously, updates, even in the way of addressing this issue, are always possible. Beyond that, regardless of what we are told of game completion, the fact remains that Halo 3: ODST has not been released yet. The game being complete or incomplete has no impact at all upon the complete suck-factor involved if there is no game-finding of some sort for firefight. I really believe that the more people that know about this the more that sales will suffer for this game, but it wouldn't be a terribly hard fix to address this issue and eliminate the problem that so many are complaining about, even at this late stage. Even a promise of something to come after release would go a long way.

Congratulations Bungie. You've been upstaged by Epic, Valve, and Treyarch. TREYARCH.
How far you've fallen indeed.

"Undoubtedly this is the heretic's doing!"

Yep. This is a sad day. I was super excited for ODST and hearing about Firefight mode but I'm not gonna be buying this game just for the campaign and same old multiplayer with a new map pack.

Firefight would've kept me playing this game IF they put in matchmaking. Extremely poor decision Bungie. I doubt your wallet will be hurting but this is another buyer not getting the game. Heck this could've been an opportunity for custom game matchmaking! For god's sakes Bungie open up your game more to the community. Far Cry had a fantastic map making community back in the day because players could search for games and download them to their hard drives right off the bat to jump in and play. No hoops to jump through, just search for a gametype and bam, you get a list of custom maps up and running. I shouldn't have to come to this website to do that, nor party up with randoms and hope they'll all want to play a custom game.

Hopefully you'll all have learned your lessons with Halo: Reach. Until then, I'm out.

I don't see the point of Firefight in Matchmaking. I'll just play it with my friends.

absolutely!

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

No. I want to play with people that I KNOW will not quit. Not my fault people cant make friends on xbox live.

  • 07.19.2009 8:59 PM PDT

Vancouver BC, Canada.

I would never use Matchmaking to play Firefight. I have too many friends to play it with.

  • 07.19.2009 9:08 PM PDT

DERP.

why not? theres no reason not to...

Has Bunqie ever stated why they won't include matchmaking?

  • 07.20.2009 10:41 PM PDT

The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there's no good reason to go into space--each discovered, studied, and remembered by the ones who made the irrational decision.

one of the many reasons why this game will be a rent and not a buy.
