yes!!! that is one of the reasons i hate odst! i hate campaigns (especially in odst) and firefight is so fun, but none of my friends own odst or ever want to play it, so it is worthless. if firefight had matchmaking, i would play it every day!!!

matchmaking would be pointless.
it would take 30 mins or so to find a game and when someone leaves you all get kicked.

  • 11.14.2009 8:40 PM PDT

Virgil are you sure you're playing Halo or Gears? It doesn't take -blam!- 30 minutes to get into a game with someone in Halo 3. It would take about 5 minutes at most on a slow day. Matchmaking would have made this the best survival mode to date but they killed it. Finding someone to play with is better then not playing at all!

  • 11.16.2009 6:27 PM PDT

Pyromcr24. If you actually would keep your word send a friend request to ValhallaSpartan. I won't play today because if I work a huge chunk of overtime (11 to 12 hours a day) but tomorrow I shouldn't. We can play tomorrow.

  • 11.16.2009 6:28 PM PDT

Yes because it's cool to search Bungie.net for hours on end for someone to play with until you find 3 people when it could take at most 5 minutes with matchmaking and the potential for quitters, betrayals, lag, and noobs is equal.

Seriously take your fail with you out the back door.

  • 11.16.2009 6:33 PM PDT

real gamers dont race to the top of the leaderboards as soon as te latest shooter comes out......they race to the top, and then tell eveyone they arent even trying so they look cool.

although many say you need to work as a team to succeed in firefight, what harm is adding a potentally helpful addition going to do? i can never find 3 friends who want to play firefight exctly when i want to (and thats providing theyre actually online). but being able to prioritise people with a headset/good connection/simar skill level so better players dont suffer, and worse playes dont get sworn at would be needed, me thinks.

  • 11.16.2009 6:56 PM PDT

Yes. It would be easier to get Endure and more fun. Except some people would just kill themselves and their teammates.

  • 11.16.2009 7:07 PM PDT

to tell ya the truth that article was pretty much saying they where to lazy to do it sure it i mean sure it would have been hard to do but it would have made the game way better i mean seriously who play ODST still 50,000 people sure that's a lot and all but compared to halo 3 which is 500,000 now 2 years after is release it's a big differance

  • 11.16.2009 7:41 PM PDT

WhiteCastles,Beer, and Halo3; HELLLLL YEAH BIATCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have taken the betRAYALS and suicides with random people any day than having no one to play with at all :(

  • 11.16.2009 8:36 PM PDT

Just to chime in, I love Firefight to the point that I played Windward this weekend for three hours alone and had a blast. But it was alone, because no one on my list who was available had ODST. After reading the interview on it, I can get why matchmaking's not available. But I would still take the bad gladly if I could also get games together with an actual team to watch my back. Besides, a stranger can sometimes be a friend you haven't met. I've met several class acts over matchmaking whom I still play with. If I stuck to just people I knew beforehand, I'd only have a list of about 6 people who are never on.

If it's not a gigantic hassle to work matchmaking into Firefight, I would be so for it you wouldn't believe it. But if it can't be done without massive reworking, money and man hours then it's just not to be. But a man can dream.

Video games are my favourite video games.

Screw matchmaking, let me have bots. Bots can't call me a -blam!- when I die from their god-awful grenade throws.

War is Hell, and I'm the Devil -Halo Wars

Totally. Most of time, you won't be able to get 3 friends who want to play it.

So then with matchmaking, You'll find 3 other players and you all get a random map >.> i think that'd be a good matchmaking set up.

Enter Matchmaking
Find Players
Firefight on (Fill in map)

Like you don't choose! It's all random lol

true that

  • 11.17.2009 8:02 PM PDT

shoverion it's not like it takes a -blam!-load of resources. Hell, if Treyarch can do it then why can't Bungie? This if -blam!- Treyarch we are talking about. A 3rd rate developer mouching off top tier, cream of the crop franchises is able to do something a genre defining developer can't nor won't.

Bungie won't do this with custom games and has never done because it would make matchmaking pointless. They won't do it for four player coop because the campain is not where the money is at. They won't put it in Firefight because they simply won't put the resources into it because they are lazy and use a -blam!- bull-blam!- excuse like "we have a tight schedule". Don't -blam!- bull-blam!- me, you could have delayed it until it was ready, it's not like we have a shortage of games at are disposal. If they don't want to put the effort into it then they shouldn't have put it in at all. Firefight without matchmaking is pratically pointless because
1.if you die you only get one life back at the end instead of four meaning you have a much harder chance to complete a good number of sets before being wiped.
2. It is much harder due to it not being scaled based on the number of players present.
I know this is a team based mode but if you can't get guys to play *especially when they are playing MW2* then it is not nearly as enjoyable as it should.
This is the only problem with ODST. I don't mind the Halo 3 complete multiplayer even if I have all the maps and I don't mind the single players length because it is the best SP campaign I have played this year. The firefight matchmaking is the only thing that pisses me off.

  • 12.06.2009 6:54 PM PDT

yeah i really wish they would stick in a matchmaking it makes hard to unlock achievements with fireflight especially when none of your friends dont have the game

I would say I am one of the most successful trolls in Bungie.net history.

They need something like Left 4 Dead matchmaking. Allow players to search for games in lobby. That way you can somewhat screen your teammates. That is the only way I think it could work.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

DO IT FOR REACH BUNGIE PLEASE

OK, I'm not picking on you specifically, Ragnarok. I'm just suprised that after all this time people are still arguing this point (beating this dead horse).

ODST is not and was never meant to be a flagship game. Bungie knew from the start that the success or failure of ODST was not going to significantly effect the Halo franchise. It has had little effect on Halo3 Multiplayer and Reach will dominate everything. ODST is nothing more than a gift for Halo fans. You play it with your friends. Period. They're putting all their expertise and resources into Reach, and when it comes out you will forget all about ODST. This forum will drop off to nothing.

If you (not you specifically, Ragnarok)are upset because you belive you paid too much, I'm sorry. Bungie made it clear well before release that there would be no matchmaking and I'm pretty sure what they meant was that there would never, ever, be any matchmaking. There was no point at release, and with Reach coming out this fall, there's no point since ODST will probably be dead anyway.

Zombie? What are you!? Racist? Its called "living impaired" you idiot!

Its not gonna happen, Bungie's to busy with Reach.

It's still a shame matchmaking isn't put into firefight. It would make finding games so much easier.

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

As long as there are no engineers in it. Engineers are so annoying when you're trying to get an achievement. They're the barrier that says, "Haha, you need to kill me first, but let all these grunts kill you with their plasmas."

Honestly, I hate Engineers with all my heart, and I wish they would die a lot faster.
