Damn.. I should have read more about firefight if it had matchmaking before I pre-orderd.
One thing I don't understand is how they have been hyping up firefight more than their campaign, I would have assumed it would have matchmaking. So Bungie is basically telling people that they need to find friends who want to play firefight prior to ODSTs' release? What happens to those who just purchased an Xbox360? So you guys want us to load up another game with matchmaking and ask around if they have ODST and want to play firefight??... Yeah right, sounds stupid to me, and it should sound stupid to everyone else, even you Bungie.

I know Bungie does not control the pricing for the game and they tried to include a bunch of stuff so its worth $60 ($70 in Canada), thank you, but not including matchmaking for Firefight, ODST will drop on the Xbox live charts after people got their Recon. How is this worth a full price game when there is no replay value because you gimp matchmaking.
I hope you guys can find a solution quickly.

Ok so to all of you that have said things like get friends and why cant you just play with your friends etc. Think back to when CoD5 came out everyone wanted to play zombies but then some people got bored of playing it so much while others wanted to keep playing. The same thing will happen but when you dont have enough players then it wont be fun now imagince if zombies was like that it would fail and lose players because some people own that game just to play that particular mode Plz bungie add in a MM.

I plan on just renting the game from gamefly until bungie adds a patch for some sort of public lobby or matchmaking for firefight.

If they do THEN I will probably buy a copy

  • 09.22.2009 2:12 PM PDT

well if its not on now i guess it could be added as dlc add on

Yeah there is no reason not to have MM for firefight.

This crap totally caught me by surprise. I fired up the game waiting to play this great version of hoard mode and BAM!!! I found out that they really screwed up this game. I cant believe they thought this was ok. After I beat the campaign I am going to trade my game in for the next COD. What is the point in keeping it when I wont be able to efficiently play firefight mode. That is basically why I bought this goddamn game!!!! -blam!-!!!!

ODST was already an overpriced addon. Come on Bungie do your fans right add matchmaking to ODST soon!

I think that matchmaking is a must have for firefight!

Totally. Most of time, you won't be able to get 3 friends who want to play it.

And on XBox Live, you aren't going to find anyone that will stay connected for the whole game, thus ending the fun for everyone.

Frustration will be at an all time high...

  • 09.23.2009 7:25 AM PDT

It would be pretty simple. See L4D did the same thing. L4D had matchmaking for Campaign, Versus, AND Survival. Ive played the PC and Xbox version, sadly everyone talks and works as a team on the PC. And guess what, L4D Versus IS Campaign, its just that some people are controlling the zombies. And on top of that it had a vote system where you could change map, difficulty, and vote to kick undesired players. Valve has always been better that Bungie, but this shows that Bungie isn't willing to implement things that work for other developers. Honestly, those who want to play with friends have nothing to lose, they don't HAVE to play with randoms, its an option. Because their are some of us who don't have friends on Xbox Live.

And on XBox Live, you aren't going to find anyone that will stay connected for the whole game, thus ending the fun for everyone.

Frustration will be at an all time high...
If dumbass bungie would of implemented host migration and in-game join, that would not be a problem. L4D does it and does it well. I guess its one of the reasons why it got GOTY

I'm sure if everyone continues to complain, Bungie will give in. Cross your fingers, guys.

  • 09.23.2009 7:59 AM PDT

please patch this game. this is such a horrible design flaw. or maybe include a gaming lobby where people can talk to each other to form groups. that'd be fine too. just something

I really like the fact there is no "Matchmaking" for it. Keeping it among friends reduces if not eliminates the quitters which will end the game.

I say no to the firefight MM.

This is true...I'd still like the option though.

That would kinda screw the leaderboards if you had a game where people continuously dropped in and out of FF...

  • 09.23.2009 8:17 AM PDT

When I first tried firefight I was expecting MM, so yeah I want it.

Because the leaderboards are that imporant, yeah. Leaderboards > Gameplay. Yeah, uh huh.

  • 09.23.2009 8:21 AM PDT

my bad, YES

  • 09.23.2009 8:23 AM PDT

I am so happy to see that you already have this topic in the discussion forum! It would be so much better to have matchmaking! i understand the reasoning, these firefights can go on for hours and you don't want to get put into a game with a random noob, but it's just tough trying to get four people on the same page to play a game.

  • 09.23.2009 8:25 AM PDT

yeah there should be severe stats penalties for quiting

but then there is people who have legit reasons for quiting,or people who just don't have the time or patience for
100+minutes of nonstop firefight.

would it be fair to penalize them to?

This is bull, you sell a game for $60 and all it has is a short campaign and 3 maps. When I bought it I just assumed you could play Firefight in playlists, now I'm considering taking it back. How hard can it be to add a game search or matchmaking ability to it?

Maybe instead of spending money on crappy writers (the storyline and dialog is pretty stupid) they should have revamped the playlist system.

Thanks bungie for ripping us off. It really does show that you're undeniably part of Microsoft.

I was just saying why they won't do that. Are you really gonna wanna play FF with anyone but friends?

W/O some sort of ranking system, you're going to be matched up w/ unskilled people a lot of the time. Someone is likely to drop out.

If they implemented drop in/out, they'd need some sort of system that gives you points based on how long you stay in the game. They'd need to make it invisible to the players, though, to try to prevent cheating and elitists from boasting about their "FF Rank".

I, personally, only wanna play with my friends anyways, but that is just my opinion.

I was at a complete loss as well when I found this out. With so many achievements built around firefight, I found it hard to believe that there was no matchmaking. I only have one friend who plays halo and would love if we could go into matchmaking to pick up two more players. I know I can go into the forums and find two kids to play but that is kind of a hassle. Especially if from time to time I just want to be able to turn on my xbox and jump into a match of firefight with three randoms.
