Yes, that would be cool. Of course, I would only go into the matchmaking if I didn't feel like playing alone.

That's what friends are for :). Hopefully a party system would be integrated as well where you could go in with one or two friends and match up with one or two other randoms.

i know tahts what i was thinking not all of my friends got ODST so only two of us can play and it sucks cuz if yuo have 4 people its more fun and you can get further

I was just saying why they won't do that. Are you really gonna wanna play FF with anyone but friends?

W/O some sort of ranking system, you're going to be matched up w/ unskilled people a lot of the time. Someone is likely to drop out.

If they implemented drop in/out, they'd need some sort of system that gives you points based on how long you stay in the game. They'd need to make it invisible to the players, though, to try to prevent cheating and elitists from boasting about their "FF Rank".

I, personally, only wanna play with my friends anyways, but that is just my opinion.

Ive been playing Halo 3 since launch by myself no friends no nothing. Go to level 42 Team Slayer by myself and enjoy Big Team myself. Secondly no ranked just matchmaking. Ranking is stupid and adds nothing to the game.

It would be nice to have matchmaking, but at the same time it is understandable the decision creamer made. I don't think the game would have deserved a further delay just to rewrite the code. I too, will have trouble finding friends to play.

Yes. I do my best to meet and fill my friends list with new players and can see its going to be a chore to set a game up and get going (and then, if someone drops/lags out during the match it ends for everyone). For me and many others it will be a rarity to get 4 people together and play a great, prolonged firefight match. I love this new mode bungie; love itlove it loveit. I wish MM could be added with a nice n' meaty patch/update but am fairly certain its not possible/not going to happen. Perhaps some sort of chat/lobby area where prospective FF players can enter and see each other and then send invites/meet up from there could be patched in as a midway solution? My IRL friends either live in diff. states, dont care about playing halo, or dont care about playing games period, and so the amount of players on XBL is the player pool I am to draw from most of my online gaming. This game makes it hard to do so : (. To end my windbaggery; heres hoping all is well and considered for with Reach : )

Noah is in Italy for the year.

I agree with about almost everyone on here to include MM for FireFight.

It really doesn't make any f***** sense why they wouldn't. What were they thinking? I don't have tons of friends who play this game 24/7, how am I supposed to enjoy my $60 purchase if I can't play the game to the fullest. I'd like to jump into a game and play with four people. How are you going to find 4 people in a small enough time to play? Take out the disc, put in the halo 3 disc, convince some people in matchmaking to put in their other disc to play firefight? Hell no. Too much effort and too much time is already wasted. BUNGIE FAIL. Stupid part on them.

Bungie better come up with some type of idea to fix this problem fast. People are feeling incredibly ripped off by this. I hope in their Weekly Update they address this....and not with some cocky, pompous paragraph.

They need to give their fans a deal. There's tons of games that are coming out that will probably overshadow this one in the next couple of months( Modern Warfare2, Asssasins Creed 2, L4D2, etc, etc). This list goes on.

Listen to your fan base, Bungie, ADD MATCHMAKING to FireFight and I'm sure we'll keep playing your game for months and months.

I'm done.

Why is anybody even voting "No" on this?? I mean seriously, even if you have enough friends to play firefight with most the time, wouldn't it be nice to at least HAVE the matchmaking option available? You could always still have the option to play by "invite only". Halo 3 has THE best matchmaking/servers/after-action stats/etc available (not necessarily saying the gameplay is better, with games out there like COD4), and Bungie couldn't manage to put in Matchmaking? That should've been a given with ANY game they put out, since it's their bread and butter. When I started playing this for the first time on the release day, I thought "Wait a minute....surely I'm missing something here. Where's the matchmaking?". But alas, they actually left it out, and I found myself playing through Firefight alone, and sending invites to people I didn't know through my friends' friends-list....none of which accepted. And why should they?--I usually ignore random gameplay invites from people that aren't on my friends-list too.

What the crap were you thinking Bungie? Time to ante up and listen to the people playing your games.

The one and only frog.

I voted no. Why? Simple.
I do not want to play with incompetent people that infest matchmaking. I am glad there is none for firefight. I would much rather play with my friends and clan. Heck I even enjoy playing alone.

Did you even read past the first sentence of my post? The point I was making was that why would you vote "No" to leave out a feature that you don't HAVE to use, but should still have the option to. It's the same as Halo 3. You can always choose to play multiplayer with the people of your choosing in a party, play the campaign alone, or like the vast majority of us---do matchmaking where there will ALWAYS be somebody available to play whatever game type you want to.

Yes I did read your post. The fact that putting in matchmacking would delay the relase of the game by months is a great reason to no include it. Did you read the reply from urk? Firefight is built off of campaign and that networking system, therefore adding in a system to find people would take a long time to implement if not impossible. I would rather have the game now and just play with friends.

Not everyones as popular as you...

I'd love some matchmaking

Here's some matchmaking for you: Friends. Don't have any? Make some.

It would be a nice addition, but it sounds like it's not possible.

No, I prefer to go in with friends. If firefight had MM i probably wouldn't use it.

UNBELIEVABLY horrible mistake by Bungie to not implement matchmaking for Firefight. I really dont think there that stupid, however. I feel there is a "hidden" motive behind their actions. thoughts?

Good points.

BUNGIE, YOU NEED TO FIX THIS, MATCHMAKING IS ESSENTIAL!

Saying that it's not possible because it would require a code rewrite is not good enough. You wouldn't find Ford making a new model of car without a set of brakes, saying: well, we couldn't put the brakes in because it would require more work.

C'mon Bungie, do the right thing here.

If we don't get matchmaking I'll be selling my copy of ODST for sure.

  • 09.23.2009 5:50 PM PDT

Halo Reach!!!!

who would say no

  • 09.23.2009 6:12 PM PDT

i dont know why they wouldnt do it. all they would have to do use the matchmaking model from halo 3, use two playlists, social and ranked (each including sub-playlists for difficulty) and there would be random maps or watever and there you go. it would probably only have taken them a few more months if they considered it(which they prob did im just missing a point here.)

My friends are too lazy/cheap to buy it. Plus some of my other friends who WOULD buy it for the multiplayer WON'T because there is no matchmaking (and, thusly, sucks). Which I am beginning to come to the opinion of.

  • 09.23.2009 6:31 PM PDT

No-one on either Bungie or the forums has commented as of yet on one possible solution to the problem and it's starting to annoy me - if it's a crazy idea just let me know and I'll drop it but until then...

Basically - I can search through a friends list and friends of friends to see whose playing online and what they're doing (solo/coop/in menus etc). It feels like I am doing Matchmaking manually.

Solution = program to go through the people playing and just give us a list of full games. Bungie must know how many people are online and doing what - I mean, I can find out just by looking at Gamertags. Server browsing. Surely that's not a rewrite of the code - just another menu to add to the start bar.

ODST needs Matchmaker. Gears has it for Hoard, WaW has it for Zombies, L4D hast it, Vegas 1+2 allows you to choose a Terrorist Hunt game....
