It's absolutely nuts that Bungie did not include any tool to link people up for firefight. It is reasonable to assume that the majority of ODST players will not be able to consistently find 3 players to join up with, let alone 1. And frankly I would be willing to bet that a large chunk will not be able to find a single player to play with. I am the only gamer among my friends and have no one on my friends list that plays ODST, they all stuck with H3, and now I know why. Am I going to be forced to find players to play with in forums? Probably. But I should not have to. So to all those that try to defend Bungie's lack of a match-making feature, STFU. I SHOULD NOT have to surf the forums to potentially find others to play FF with.
To Curtis Creamer, who in justifying FF's lack of matchmaking, meant for Firefight to be a "cooperative experience you have with friends" -blam!- you for making a decision like that, when it is the COMMUNITY'S decision to make. And the rest of his response Is just one gigantic cop out. I hate ya creampuff. Why not add a public lobby like others have mentioned? It's not rocket science and a public lobby seems completely reasonable to me, there is no way Bungie has no way of tracking who is playing on THEIR servers. They could compile a list easy.
To those who enjoy playing among friends and would not use matchmaking, great, I support your endeavors, but frankly, your are the VAST minority. 200+ of you say no, while 1400+ have said yes. Stop impeding on MY RIGHT to enjoy firefight. You say you don't want to play with whiners, quitters, and loud-mouth youngsters, well neither do it, AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO. Implementing a match-making feature is not going to force you to use it..jesus. But guess what? Halo 3 is already FILLED with em, and you would be hollering your asses off if Halo 3 had no matchmaking functionality, and for good reason. The same logic applies to Firefight, and if you cannot understand that...may God help you.
I thoroughly enjoyed ODST's campaign, A+ bungie. The campaign, sure It could have been a couple hours longer, however, is not what makes me feel that this game is not worth $60 dollars. If I pay $60 for a game, I'm expecting it to have considerable replay value. Without a way of connecting Firefight players through live...however you do it...this game DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH REPLAY VALUE to make it worth $60. Now I already bought the game, and I'm not going to return it, It wouldn't do any harm to Bungie since I already bought it anyway. But the thousands of people who are cruising this forum and forums alike figuring out whether to buy it, THEY WON'T.
RANT DONE. Bungie..WTF were you thinking? And where the hell is your response? Oh that's right, You DO have your heads in the sand, because you know you screwed up. Grow a pair and dignify a community that has stuck with you for 8 years with a response!
