People are missing the main concept. Firefight is built of the campaign and has the dynamic ai affect. Not to mention the whole game is a squad based action game and is not a single person shooter. Unlike the previous Halo versions. When playing with other people you have to work together. I am a software engineer and it is hard to get everything to work in a release, I would rather have a stable platform and have updates to it to add functionality. Sure if enough people complain they may eventually release a patch for it. Just like people complained about not being able to have more than 2 players in campaign mode of halo 3 and no you can have up to 4.

we play horde mode in gears of war with match making and have many great games. that is a poor argument.

Another problem with firefight is the game ends, if one of your buddies has to leave. it doesn't let you continue to see how long the remaining player can last. and I am not talking about the party leader leaving, just one of the party members. that stinks. we were an hour in to a nice match and guy had to leave and the whole thing ended.

firefight was not very well thought out for the real world

Firefight is built on top of the campaign networking model. There's no matchmaking functionality.

Bungie still wont reliaze this(i no i spelled it wrong) but not ALL people can just so easy just invite friends to firefight or not all people have friends who even like halo so some people wont even like firefight because they have no1 to play it with!
When i got this game Saturday me and my cousin popped this game in and played NONSTOP!!! THis game is so freakin awesome! Then when me and my cousin(EraseurMind is his gamertag) played firefight we where like omg this is so freakin AWESOOOOME. But none of our friends liked halo that much so we couldn't have a competition( i love competition). Me and my cousin wanted to see if there was Matchmaking for firefight but sadly no.. Bungie STILLL wont RECOGNIZED THIS!!!! Not all people like HALO! and NOT LL PEOPLE HAVE FRIENDS THAT LIKE HALO!! Yes i understand y there was no matchmaking for firefight BUT! I hope I HOPE AND PRAAAAYY! SO much you might include it in the update oh God PLEASE! I have freinds and a clan that plays it so im fine sort of.

I would like to invite you to the most active group there is, Black Water Ops. Boasting over 4000 members this is one of the fastest growing groups and proven to be one of the most active Bnet groups. An amazing experience awaits you with weekly game nights, photo contests, and forging contests. This is one decision you won't regret.

It would be nice.

what a waste, full price for the game and only 1/2 a game, great to know bungie has a new lower standard. any decent game now has a matchmaking mode. I already beat odst campaign mode. and there is no new online gameplay, I will be trading the game in soon to get gears of war.

Edit: Kotaku Australia asked Curtis Creamer why there wasn't any matchmaking. He gives a little more detailed explanation than Urk does in this article: Clicky

Fine, so it can't do matchmaking, how about a simple lobby system? There has to be some simple way to set up a lobby system that 1 to 4 players can chose to join, then be sent into the "Co op" game together.

Halo 3 is my first FPS multilayer, at first i was like 0.1 k/d, but now every game i play is +20 carnage. Practice is key my fellow gamers.

WOOOOOW, i just read this, and this is worse than gow2 bugs-Cliffy B. I want to knock this guy out for being so |=ucking stupid. They already stole the idea 'HORDE' from gow2, but they can't put matchmaking in?. BTW gow2 has mathmaking for co-op. and a side note: YOU CANT PLAY 4 PERSON CO-OP ON 1 XBOX YOU D0UCHE.

PS. BAN ME

Hmm..overall this game wasn't worth 60 bucks IMO. The campaign was good the first time but after I beat it on heroic in 5 hours I find no reason to play it again. It's repetitive. Firefight was epic the first couple of times but after we got the Endure achievment that got boring pretty fast playing with the same 3 people again and again ((I have 64 friends. Only about 7-8 play Halo 3 and 4 have ODST). MM would have been a great option for firefight and I wouldn't have minded a custom games engine for ODST. That would have been EPIC.

Oh well. Back to COD5 or Far Cry 2. It was fun for the first couple of days.

It is important to remember that although one can train, study, and become highly skilled, comfortable, and experienced with any facet of Halo—in the end, all he is doing is improving his odds. You may always be beaten, and they don’t need to be better than you over a thousand games—just right now, as they shoot you in the head.

I voted yes, but perhaps I should have said no.

I was thinking, optional matchmaking, where if you really wanted 4 people you could open it up, but you could still just roll with only whats in your party.

  • 09.25.2009 7:12 PM PDT

None of my friends play/like Halo so I'm forced to try and solo FF.I mean even a server list would be better than this. Having to organize people on forum in other to play online with them is freaking stupid.

  • 09.25.2009 7:36 PM PDT

It's absolutely nuts that Bungie did not include any tool to link people up for firefight. It is reasonable to assume that the majority of ODST players will not be able to consistently find 3 players to join up with, let alone 1. And frankly I would be willing to bet that a large chunk will not be able to find a single player to play with. I am the only gamer among my friends and have no one on my friends list that plays ODST, they all stuck with H3, and now I know why. Am I going to be forced to find players to play with in forums? Probably. But I should not have to. So to all those that try to defend Bungie's lack of a match-making feature, STFU. I SHOULD NOT have to surf the forums to potentially find others to play FF with.

To Curtis Creamer, who in justifying FF's lack of matchmaking, meant for Firefight to be a "cooperative experience you have with friends" -blam!- you for making a decision like that, when it is the COMMUNITY'S decision to make. And the rest of his response Is just one gigantic cop out. I hate ya creampuff. Why not add a public lobby like others have mentioned? It's not rocket science and a public lobby seems completely reasonable to me, there is no way Bungie has no way of tracking who is playing on THEIR servers. They could compile a list easy.

To those who enjoy playing among friends and would not use matchmaking, great, I support your endeavors, but frankly, your are the VAST minority. 200+ of you say no, while 1400+ have said yes. Stop impeding on MY RIGHT to enjoy firefight. You say you don't want to play with whiners, quitters, and loud-mouth youngsters, well neither do it, AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO. Implementing a match-making feature is not going to force you to use it..jesus. But guess what? Halo 3 is already FILLED with em, and you would be hollering your asses off if Halo 3 had no matchmaking functionality, and for good reason. The same logic applies to Firefight, and if you cannot understand that...may God help you.

I thoroughly enjoyed ODST's campaign, A+ bungie. The campaign, sure It could have been a couple hours longer, however, is not what makes me feel that this game is not worth $60 dollars. If I pay $60 for a game, I'm expecting it to have considerable replay value. Without a way of connecting Firefight players through live...however you do it...this game DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH REPLAY VALUE to make it worth $60. Now I already bought the game, and I'm not going to return it, It wouldn't do any harm to Bungie since I already bought it anyway. But the thousands of people who are cruising this forum and forums alike figuring out whether to buy it, THEY WON'T.

RANT DONE. Bungie..WTF were you thinking? And where the hell is your response? Oh that's right, You DO have your heads in the sand, because you know you screwed up. Grow a pair and dignify a community that has stuck with you for 8 years with a response!

In my opinion, I think bungie should make a matchmaking option for ODST's firefight because of 3 reasons.

1. People don't need to bug their friends or any family member to play with them.

2. Great of of Co-Operation and a way to meet new friends.

3. IT'S SUICIDE DOING FIREFIGHT ALONE! !

I don't see how hard it would be to implement a simple system to drop people into a lobby together, and then move from there as if it were the normal friends only system. It would be a bit of work to add that in, but not much I would think. It doesn't have to be an incredible system, would be all I'd want if it prioritized by connection, but even then if it just only connected you with your region that would also work. Basically something to meet some new people and play when you don't have a group ready to go.

  • 09.26.2009 3:48 PM PDT

If I can already find out who's online by searching through ODST friend lists and friends of friends, it can't be hard for Bungie just to list all of that information and create a lobby. They must know who's playing what and when a lot better than I do.

Or am I dead wrong and would that be impossible too?

  • 09.26.2009 3:55 PM PDT

Can we have like a petition for matchmaking?
Like in Left 4 Dead 2, Bioshock?

  • 09.26.2009 3:55 PM PDT

ii already posted this form but yeah i agree

@NUKEUM

Petitions don't get much done so I don't think that's the way forward - hopefully Bungie will see this poll and do something though.

Even an optional old school lobby system is better than nothing.
