If they can't add matchmaking why not add a firefight searcher like Gears of War 1's searching thing.

Bungie is just being lazy. The amount of value in ODST as opposed to that in any other halo game is ridiculously low.

It is more likely that it was Microsoft who pressured them into releasing the game for a certain date so they didn't enough time to implement something like this. Either way I still love the game very much.

Like they rushed them into H2 and H3? Microsoft didn't push those out. I think Bungie probably pushed it out, if anyone did, because they're worried about COD:MF2

Yes, but I hope it has 4 player splitscreen too. In addition, I want it to be atleast 6 player coop not 4.

Just passing through life and trying to kill the time.

couldn't hurt.

  • 10.08.2009 1:47 PM PDT

i actually expected it going into odst, and right after beating campaign and entering the firefight lobby, it was a WTF? moment. i was actually really pissed off, cuz its not like your gonna find three friends willing to play firefight whenever you want to.

Im a Bungie veteran. I have and always will serve them well.

Matchmaking for ODST would be awesome. Plus, after people get the achievements, im sure people would continue to play it.

Respect My Authoritay!

Yes. Gears of War 2 made it work with Horde, so why can't bungie do it?

I <3 ][-][//-\\][_{()}

It would be nice if i could just get on and find a game in seconds instead of wasting my time playing solo while I wait for people to get online in the few lists that I know of. Seems as though the first wave of buyers have already stopped playing ODST and the second wave were lost in the dust with now lists to even refer to. Hell if I wasn't even a bungie forum user I wouldn't have even known any of the lists even existed. Then I would have wanted my 60 bucks back.

matchmaking would be really nice.
usually when I am on no one else is nor do I have friends that play this game.

I do use the bungie website which is cool but it does get a little frustrating.

That being said I usually find a game within a few minutes using the bungie classifieds.

Using the classifieds reminds me of using Xbox Connect and searching through the chat for others to play Halo:CE. It's bush league and below Bungie's standards.

Get matchmaking into this game because $60 for a 5 hour campaign and 3 maps is gross.

Here to end the borrowed time you've all been living on.

Never had the need. All my friends usually go on with me.

Many aren't as lucky. I think gamers who are in their 20's and above are the ones interested in matchmaking. I'd like to just jump on and play a couple quick games when I get home from work, but unless I have 3 friends on at the same time, no dice.

This explanation is most likely the current scenario.
Based on the current level of hype and pre-ordered copies for MW2, I'm not surprised Bungie would be worried. Too bad they released the game a few months early, depriving it of the content that could possibly help keep Halo 3 and ODST on top of Call of Duty.

Everyone seems to want Matchmaking for Firefight. Bungie shouldn't make excuses, they should just get it done because that is what the community wants to happen. I don't see why they can't do this - Horde mode in Gears of War 2 has online Matchmaking, so I don't see why Halo 3: ODST, an infinitely superior game, can't do the same.

I agree that Bungie should make some sort of DLC that allows some sort of matchmaking or search feature - SOMETHING to allow you to play with people you don't know, not only for Firefight, but also for Campaign and especially multiplayer Custom Games. This should be added to ODST as well as the original Halo 3.

I sadly don't know anybody in real life that has an Xbox and Halo 3. All of my friends on LIVE (which are very few in number) I met in various sorts of matchmaking either in Halo 3 or another Xbox game. Most of the time, there are only 1 or 2 of them online, and they either don't have ODST, or they prefer to play some other game.

It was a very rare event for me to be able to get any of my LIVE friends together to play from any of these non-matchmade game lobbies, but when I did it was a lot more fun than anything else. For a very long time I had no more than 20 custom games on my record because I simply had no one to play with that I already knew. (I did find a guy that is on a little more often, so I have played more custom games since, but he can only play for an hour or less at a time and he doesn't have ODST.)

What should be made is some sort of feature that allows you to choose a game lobby(any lobby) and some default game settings related to that lobby, like map and gametype or whatever is applicable, and they become the host. Other players can use a corresponding join feature to search for hosted games using various criteria, most importantly the lobby type, and they would be shown basic info such as the map and gametype and number of players (perhaps their gamertags too if there is enough visual space). The game settings might be locked after the game is originally hosted, but after the first game ends, all of the players should return to the lobby together, and they could switch lobbies and play with other game settings, just like if the host had manually invited those players from their friends list or recent players list. Ideally, this would not consider skill by default, but there could be settings to restrict the skill level of the game to be near to that of the host (although I'm not sure how that would work since firefight and campaign don't track skill; it would mainly be for custom games). I think Forge should also be included in the list of lobbies that this feature would work for, but the theater and matchmaking playlists could probably be excluded.

If this was implemented, I believe the game would be 3-5 times more enjoyable. Custom games would be a lot more common. It would make it a lot easier to socialize and make friends. This is what Halo 3 has been missing all along.

Yes, but that would be impossible now because the proper coding you would have to implement in the game.

That's BS. Bungie knows every gamertag of every player playing Firefight. As proof, search for people you know playing right now. It'll tell you what they're doing, how much time is left in the game, etc. With this wealth of information, there is a way to add a search bar at the LEAST. I don't buy that for a second.

I know there is so much of you who wants to play some matchmaking in ODST, but please, we have enough whit halo 3. there are still many people playing in this game, more than the whole community, just think, halo reach its really very near, i think of course there will be, some kind of new matchmaking, or something new, how many time does it take us to know and play and enjoy halo 3 maps? about 2 o 3 years! So... the next videogame will be in our hands less than 1 1/2 or 1 year, I know firefight will be bored soon, just enough time for wish a new game... I prefer ODST as it is, just because doesnt have any sense to play the same online stuff than halo 2 and 3, sometimes a rest sound good, i mean i still enjoy playing matchmaking, why did i will want more of the same if i dont have finished yet whit the things i have??? i bet that most of you are in the same position... or r you gonna tellme that every in this comunity are already a GENERAL???
