Subject: I'm a bit disappointed in Reach

I'm an adult gamer so please no flaming from the kids.

The main reason that I"m disappointed is because Reach is going to the past. There will be no big mystery like what made Halo C.E. so great...well, one of the things that made it so great.
No new aliens or new weapons and such.

I was hoping for something other than Halo, yet still connected to Halo.
Let me explain:
At the end of Halo 3 MC and Cortana are lost in space.
It would be so cool for them to fall into a completely new conflict between completely new aliens, with a new story and new mystery to solve.
All new weapons, all new alien technologies, all new worlds to explore. Yet at the same time you are still the chief. And Cortana is still with you. So you still have some of the same feel of Halo but it's also all new.
Of course, Bungie can still do something like this in the future. ;)

Now having said that I have to say that I'm a really big Halo fan and I will be buying ODST and Reach on day one. And I know that they will both be great games.
Halo is the only game that my friends and I keep coming back to. I read all of the books and I love the story. But I would love to have a brand new story about MC and Cortana.
Maybe call it "The Further Adventures or Chief and Cortana".
Ok, better leave the title to Bungie. LOL

Again, just is just my opinion so no flaming please.

P.S. Thanks for all the great games Bungie!!
Please keep up the great work. :)

"What's the last thing a dead backseater ever hears from his pilot?"
"Watch this!"

I see what you're saying but at the same time there are a lot of games that do that type of story line and it gets old after awhile and If they were to do that type of continuation of the halo story people would lose interest because it would be the same type of thing over and over again. Similar to the Resident Evil games, the first couple were amazing but I was very disappointed when I tried out Resident Evil 5.

I think you are making my point. ;)

Well I agree because that's only due to the fact that Microsoft still have their big fat finger in the pie. In Reach you will discover new things about what led to the events of Halo: Combat Evolved, divulging in to new characters and possibilities for Halo 4. I know it's early to say there could be a Halo 4 but I can only see a prequel serving the purpose of setting the scene for Halo 4 because it has some significance to the storyline which hasn't finished yet because !!SPOILER!! at the end of Halo 3 he is on course to the sentinel planet, which may hold the key to ridding the Flood once and for all.

You gotta remember that on the other hand many fans have been crying out for a Halo game based around Reach since "The fall of Reach" novel was released. It is Bungie's answer to a big proportion of their fan base. I personally like what Bungie are doing. Anything that expands the story of the Halo universe is good for me. Just because other game series such as the Resi series don't pull off a non-linear story line well dosn't mean the Halo series will go the same way. I personally cannot wait...

Well, like I said, I am looking forward to Reach. I know it's going to be a great game.
Maybe I should not have read the book. LOL

But yeah, you know that they are going to change up the gameplay...just to keep it new feeling.
And there were lots of Spartans on Reach. Can remember if MC was there at the end or already sleeping on board Pillar or Autumn.

Cortana 5 is a carbon-based lifeform that frequently visits these forums, currently residing in the United States. Practically every male on the site responds to her posts.

The Joyeuse IP Formula

Just because you know the story doesn't mean that it's not going to be exciting. There's always opportunity to tailor the game any which way Bungie wants. There can be new weapons that don't appear in previous games and such. It's not the studio's duty to stick to the books completely.

It's one thing to read it, but it's another to play it with more opportunities and to make it something entirely different, yet strangely familiar.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

I don't think you should instantly assume that we won't get these things in Reach. I highly doubt they would do a 100% translation from the novel, and so you shouldn't assume its story will go in an entirely familiar direction until we have more information on it.

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

I feel the same way, I'm hoping to hear of some type of story progression with the MC's storyline in the near future... But for now I'm happy with ODST and Reach :)

Forever there shall be war, thus forever we shall fight...

You seem to think that just because a mystery doesn't involve a Halo it is uninteresting. To think that Bungie would completely ignore the Forerunner installation(s) on Reach is just completely ig'nant.

A lot will be new. If you read the book it starts off with John as a kid. Technology is constantly evolving. Take a look at your life for example. What was technology like when you were a kid and now? Video games are a perfect example...we went from Pac-Man to H3 in what....20 years?

I believe this game will be great fun and look beautiful. I am also sure this game will have a great story even though we know Reach's fate. However, I loved Halo mostly for the character of the Master Chief. He is most arguably the icon of the Xbox. For this reason I do not believe it would be right or fair to just leave him floating in space like in the end of Halo 3. I will surely preorder Halo Reach and get it the first day, but I wish that Bungie someday returns to the story of Master Chief.

That is the same reason the Matix 2 and 3 suck in comparison to Matrix 1, and the reason Halo 2 and Halo 3 suck in comparison to Halo Combat Evolved. The mystery just sort of dulled out a little. We still had mysteries like the ark or new characters, but don't worry. I'm sure they can add in new enemies like the Drinol or something, and say they are s o Rare Chief never ran into them. Unfortunately, mysteries like the Flood weren't so effective the second or third time around.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Personally I was hoping that Bungie was going to be pursuing a new IP sooner rather that later, but I am more stoked for Reach than I have been for any of the Halo sequals. The reason for this is that myself, along with several others, have wanted to story of Reach brought forward in either a game or a movie. This is fan service at it's purest and nearly all who have read the novel are anticipating this title.

I do agree that things can get stale, but you need to keep the story in it's context for the sake of enjoyment. This is where emmersion comes in. Techincally the events on Reach (as outlined in the novel) are not like anything else that has been played, so it stands a good chance at being a fresh experience. I have high hopes for it, while at the same time I am not getting my hopes up too high, if that makes any sense.

add a horn that says "!%*@ BILL O' REILLY" in Austin Powers' voice, and
I like how if anyone ever says a nice thing about Bungie people think all they want is Recon, and if someone says something bad about Bungie people join with them. And then after they get done bagging on Bungie, they go play the game that Bungie made

You can't judge the game based on one trailer. There is a lot of mystery surrounding the events of Reach. Further, the game may take place on Reach and then move on to a different planet after the battle.

Well since we know so much about Reach's story, characters and gameplay, I have to agree with you.

Oh wait, we don't.

How do you know that Reach isn't a completely new story, new characters, new gameplay, and the only thing connecting it to the Chief is that it's in the 'Halo Universe'?

I'll pass my judgement when we know more about the game then just it's name.
