Forge
The main problem I have with Forging in Halo 3 is that to make a really good map, I mean
really good map, you have to do all these painstaking glitches that take so much unneccesary time. And then there's the fact that it's such a pain to make smooth surfaces, virtually impossible if you don't have guiding objects to make sure you place the next block straight.
Some ideas for Forging in Halo: Reach are as follows:
* New forge settings that can be turned on and off via the start menu WHILE playing forge.
These settings should include:
- Canvas (get rid of all objects, spawns, start spawns, and objective-game related
items)
- Delete all items (equipment, weapons, powerups)
- Delete all vehicles
- Delete all spawns points (starts and respawns
- Position Lock (where you let go of something, it will stay, even if it's in the air)
- No Collision (for merging immovable objects)
- No Collision (for map geometry, geomerging)
- 45*/90* Snap for X-Axis
- a "set to disappear" option (opposite of the spawn at start option) after a set amount of time,
the object would disappear from the game
- An option to make grav lifts indestructible
- An undo button on the controller
- when you set an object to not spawn at start, and then start a new round, you should still be able to see it, but it would be a ghost object. You would only see the outline, it would be see-through, and a light-blue color. And it would also act as if it were not there, although you can see it.
Another big thing I would like to see is an option to instantly merge/geomerge adjacent objects of the same type. You would select this when you're done with your map or a part of your map. If you selected this for walls, for instance, it would instantly straighten/smoothen them out if they are touching and are very close to a 180* degree angle, and then if they are touching the ground, they will geomerge with it, and then the walls will merge together if they are touching each other. This would take multiple objects and merge them into one large object, and possibly make them a part of the map geometry itself. It would likely be immovable and uneditable, which is why you would only do it once you're finished. The benefits of this would be that it would be easier on the game engine and the Xbox processor. Instead of having to keep track of a vast multitude of objects, it would only keep track of a few, or if the immovable objects were made part of the map's geometry, the Xbox would only have to keep track of the movable objects and items, this would greatly decrease lag and could possibly allow players to add more objects than they would otherwise be able to due to a decreased strain on the processor. Another benefit of this would have to do with gameplay and map aesthetics, if stuff is instantly straightened and merged together, maps will look much smoother and when you walk across surfaces that are not part of the map's geometry, they won't seem "bumpy". Obviously such a setting, if not tuned right, could potentially mess up a map, and it would likely have to load again before being able to see the changes. But that's why it would be optional. It would be an auto-adjustment that would vastly improve the aesthetics of any map.
New Objects (placeable in forge)
- larger, immovable turrets (shade turret, warthog turret, gauss cannon)
- Red and Blue Banners
- Jackal sniping tower
- time filter (day or night)
- weather filter (thunderstorm, thick fog, heavy wind with no effect on gameplay other than
visibility)
- breakable glass windows and possibly even breakable walls
- weapon drop pods (with weapons)
In general, I love the addition of visual filters in forge, but I think that they should be adjustable, because for instance, the Nova filter is way too strong. You should also be able to adjust the lighting and saturation
New Powerups
- Smokescreen/Smoke Grenade
- Vortex? Apparently it was programmed into Halo 3 but was then taken out. It pulls bullets out of their normal trajectory, protecting a player from snipers
Maps
- need to include updated versions of all original maps ever released by bungie
New Gameplay
- On an elimination game, like Predator, dead players can't communicate with living ones (unless this is already in place)
- silenced weapons
- There should be an AUG for Halo 3. It looks similar to the BR but 100X cooler. It would function like a BR, but it could be silenced and it would have something similar to a sniper scope (better scope than BR, but not as good as the sniper rifle)
- There should be an electric-based weapon in Halo 3. Which could possibly replace the plasma pistol. It could operate the same as the plasma pistol but would have additional effects when fully charged. When you shoot it an arc of lightning, size and intensity depending on how much you charge it, would be unleashed and would arc around whatever the charge hit. It would be stronger than the plasma pistol, and when you charge it up all the way it would drain someone's shields just like the plasma pistol. But if you unleashed it on someone with low or non-existent shields, it would kill them in the same way that a flame grenade would. It could also render smaller vehicles and turrets inoperable for a short amount of time.
- flashlights in multiplayer for darker maps.
- ability to zoom in while riding in a hornet or any similar vehicle
- make gauss cannons fully-auto (not rapid fire, just so you can simply hold down the trigger instead of having to press it every single time you shoot. It would make it easier for seriously non-multi-taskers, in otherwords: me)
- you know how the blast doors in high ground disappear in most game types, you should have a custom-game setting which allows those to be there. Stuff like that (where you press a button) should appear more often, and in more forms, in more maps.
- What would be really cool is a map that was like a larger version of high ground, with a lot of artillery and a high tech bunker, but had an off button for all those defenses, or like a power generator that could be destroyed shutting off all power including lights.
- Bases in which the lighting for certain objects changes to the color of the team that controls the base
- different visors (night vision, infra-red, standard) available if the custom game settings allows for it. It would be totally awesome if you were playing infection on a darker map, and zombies could see better in the dark. It would also make the Predator variant more realistic
- there should be additional settings for weapons placed in forge. It would be awesome if someone shot by a sniper rifle burst into flames.
Player Customization
- black armor?
- flourescent lighting options for armor (black armor with what appears to be glowing red cracks would be just plain awesome) (when I say this i'm thinking of the phazon suit in metroid prime)
Settings for Custom Games
- instant respawn?
- for infection, there should be an option to differentiate between how many lives zombies get,
and how many lives humans get. Example: give zombies infinite lives, and give humans 1. Suicides would become a non-issue in custom games.
Graphics
-blood should be more realistic, if you shoot someone in the head with any weapon, a good patch of blood should hit any wall behind them.
- if you get shot to death by bullets (not plasma) you should bleed out
