Subject: The map system / Transportation theory

I was listening to the podcast released 6/2/09, and it sounds like there's something about the pda system (how you view the large scale map of the world) that hasn't been talked about yet. I think this also has something to do with the hinted at method of transportation in some of the videos from demonstrations of the game.

I'm not referring specifically to how it jumps from after the telephone booth to the beginning of the oni alpha scene, but rather how it seems that they are hinting there is another way to get around besides just walking.

My theory is that - using the map, you can quickly go to areas you have already visited, with the superintendant helping you in some manner. They've already said that the SI controls the trash pickup, etc - so why couldn't there be some tube system or people mover that lets you get to areas of the map quickly by asking on your pda for help? My thought that it is only to previously accessed areas is because they wouldn't want you to just be able to skip through all the fights to get to the "areas of interest" - but they might let you fight your way back and then jump back to the hub area.

Another thing to remember is that when one of the interviewers said something about elephant travel, the Bungie person replied "when the game comes out, you'll realize just how true that almost was"

Anyway - here's the video that had me thinking along these lines - and the recent podcast tied in with my thought.
check out about 10:30 into the video

What do you think? How are they going to do the travel system for when you aren't "just on your feet?"

But they were also talking about things that would surprise us. While I have heard that there will be vehicles in the firefight mode, we haven't heard (as far as I know) about using them in the campaign. Also - what happens if you flip a warthog? You probably can't flip it, because you won't have the strength the master chief had.

Look for the signs, the keepers of the flame. They will lead you to war, and perhaps, to victory.

In the Halo 3 campaign, if you flip a vehicle and there are enough people nearby, they'll group up and flip it together. Maybe you can do the same in the campaign and/or firefight if you're got 2 ODST's at least (so people without live can flip vehicles by playing split-screen)?

Per Audacia Ad Astra

On the Campaign Walkthrough Joe Staten said "i'm gonna use a cheat and jump ahead here" where he jumped straight to the mission area. I would prefer to ride a Mongoose around New Mombasa...

hmm... all they need to do is build some roads(not mashed up ones like i already saw) and give you a mongoose and your ready. It would be kool if they introduced a playlist in matchmaking like halo 3 racing or sumthing.

All roads lead to Sol.

Mongoose? Please.

I'd Jack peoples cars. GTA style. Steal one of the Police cars turn on the sirens.

That would be great.

Didn't they say there was a highway that went around the city? I assume we'd use that.
