Subject: Halo Reach = Halo MMO

For those who don't know, an MMO is a Massive Multiplayer Online game, meaning, there would be a higher number of people able to play at the same time as usual. (just think of games such as Star wars: Battlefront 1 and 2, or Battlefield, or the likes of World of Warcraft or Guild Wars) there are tons of people who play online at the same time, I doubt an FPS would be able to have as many people in the same place at the same time as Guild Wars or WoW, but like Star Wars: Battlefront and Battlefield, you could still possibly have more than 16 players.

I think what the OP is trying to ask is:

Will Halo: Reach be similar to Battlefield or Battlefront.

In which case, you would select which class you want to be (for example, it could be demolition expert, which would probably have rocket launcher and SP Laser, or Scout, which would have maybe a Sniper and Magnum)

You would also have to take over spawn control points, and also try to defend those points from the opposing team. I think it would be fun if it was this type of game, but that's my opinion. (oh and yes, if you didn't know, Battlefront and Battlefield are FPS games)

And just like the said 2 games, It can still have an offline mode, or Campaign mode (which would still revolve around the capturing spawn control points, with added storyline and various other objectives added to the missions (with increasing difficulty)

By the way, I hope I didn't just type that for nothing lol, and I hope if I didn't, it answered some peoples questions! :)

Time flies like an arrow; fruits flies like a banana.

I don't think you can judge what genre a game is from one picture, especially if there are only a few shadows on it.

True what "TrueB3liever" said. MMO would suit events after Halo3 due to the availability of other rases like the Elites, Hunters etc.

But Halo Reach will most likely be FPS :) thats Bungie style

Here we are again bro... Just you and me. Same kind of moon same kind of jungle. Real number 10 remember... Whole platoon, 32 men chopped into meat... We walk out just you and me, nobody else. Right on top huh? Not a scratch... Not a f**kin' scratch. You know who ever got you. They'll come back again. And when he does I'm gonna cut your name right into him... I'M GONNA CUT YOUR NAME RIGHT INTO HIM!

Sigh,

Yur moms a FPS

and nobody gets what I'm trying to say

No I get it, its just that an MMO from a company that has been making FPS games just seems unlikely.

Plus, it has to compete with WoW, Oblivion, Fable.

A MMORPG can still be a FPS you know

That would be called an MMOFPS.

No in fact it would be called a MMORPGFPS.

Like Fallout 3 RPG with the MMO aspect. The great thing about Fallout 3/Oblivion was the fact that it gave you the option of playing it with a FPS view. The RPG element of Halo: Reach might explain the wierd silloettes, in that you might be able to customise what you are wearing so much so that the Bungie community are having trouble making out what is being shown in the Halo reach Banner. And the MMO aspect would be amazing cus it would let us all wonder about in the Halo universe instead of the ghaye warcraft one.

I really hope it's an MMOFPS, or the multiplayer has a MMOFPS option.

Think about it....exploring the Halo Universe, across the galaxy, as a Spartan/Elite/(possibly)Brute, with thousands of others in this Universe.

With the option to have your own UNSC/Covenant starship.

I'm drooling.

Wonder what Bungie have in store for use after Reach?

It wont be an MMO. Bungie tried it with the first Halo but it wasn't working well so they went to FPS. Besides, its a prequel so it would be a bit naff if it was an MMO :/

I really really hope not. That would suck, and be a stupid decision from Bungie if it happened. It's been confirmed as a FPS anyway.

Have you ever heard of subdefuge? Even though its quoted as being an FPS that still doesnt mean it wont have other elements. Fallout 3 is marketed as an RPG but it sure as hell is a FPS aswell. I'm just saying that nothing can be ruled out at this stage. Frig you could jump in a hornet in Halo 3 and fly around in it then stick Flight-sim on the back of the box and still be correct.
Are you kidding me? There is a huge difference between an FPS having elements of other genres and an FPS being that said "other element" in an MMORPG. Sure, an FPS can have roleplaying elements to it, but once those elements become the leading prevalent mode of play, they become the genre. And no Fallout, is not an FPS. It is an RPG that uses the first-person perspective. The FPS genre is indicated by more than just its prespective and arsenal, particularly by a relatively linear and non-interactive (whether to your character or other characters) gameplay environment and storyline. Customizable suits and weaponry does not instantly indicate roleplaying, either. We do that in Halo 3 now, except that our arsenal choices happen on the battlefield.

The confirmed genre for Halo: Reach is an FPS, which means that it is NOT an MMORPG or combination of the two, period. And your flight-sim suggestion is incredibly ridiculous.

I can't believe people are arguing this over a banner. Ever stop and wonder that the banner's silhouettes might simply represent the anonymity, yet diversity of the men and women that fought on Reach? It is way too early to be giving them any significance whatsoever, let alone assuming that because they look different, that it indicates details about the genre that contradict what an MS rep has told the public.

No, I don't believe that it's an MMO.

For one, is almost every other comment made by the people on this forum, and for another is this:

http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6211451/

If you go to 37 seconds in, Staten talks about how in Extras, this is where we will go to access the multiplayer beta for Halo: Reach, when we are able to access it. This says to me that the multiplayer beta will actually still be built in the Halo 3 engine. Sure it may have upgrades, but overall, it will still be similar to Halo 3.

FPS > MMO anyway.

I'm not going to read the entire thread in every place I post. Don't be stupid. It's unlikely Bungie would decide to dump 90 percent of their fanbase for some MMO that would likely fail. Bungie doesn't make freaking mmos. Get it?

  • 06.05.2009 11:18 AM PDT

Remember Reach!

It'd be interesting to have a Halo MMO but I just don't see it working and I definitely don't see Bungie jumping into that any time soon. They make FPS game that have some adventure/exploration in there... I could see RPG elements being added but other than that, don't think this will stray too far from the normal Halo model!

Get some!!! wanna play me??? pst me...

Now, before the trolls eat me alive and i get flamed into a crispy black corpse, let me explain.

Details were leaked a while back about the Halo MMO, as well as screenshots etc.

If you check out the image for Halo Reach (handily placed at the top of the page) there are some strange physiques there. Since no details of HUGE guys with flamethrowers (on the left) were ever described in first strike, and a lot of the silhouettes are varied and a bit strange, I'm thinking maybe its gonna be the MMO - those games are full of different classes and what not and i doubt M$ are gonna let another big seller just get scrapped.

if it was a MMO why would they do it on just one planet? makes no sense imo.

I can't say i'm an MMO fan (and i hope its not one) but a plausible theory, no?

I leave it to you Bungie community. I'm stumped.

To be honest everyone should know how bungie manage their marketing of games, people should have been around here long enough to know what bungie is like!! If its speculation and mystery you like then you've come to the right place, personally i just wait until more details are released before jumping the gun and then you don't look stupid when bungie proves certain people wrong and some correct??
Its interesting to read peoples views because i personally haven't a clue about this new release!!

  • 06.05.2009 11:27 AM PDT

Non facete nobis calcitrare vestrum perinaeum

It's already been confirmed that it is a FPS.

First of all, learn to use periods. Secondly, yes I have. Microsoft confirmed it is an FPS. Stop crying to me just because I posted what I thought.
