Well, while it is a good idea, I'm going to point out a few problems with the idea of a Halo MMO. With the characters you play, wandering around in a city under assult by Covenant Forces, it will get more and more like ODST Night missions. The style of MMO is for Level Grinding and Monster killing, however if they added no "Levels" and "EXP Level" then it would be better. The Gameplay of Reach might have areas in Urban Combat and possible fighting in the glassed areas thought to be inhabitable. The matchmaking system seems to be more likely due to the Multiplayer Beta, and Halo 3 Engine. An MMO Requires different Physics that a console based game cannot support without multiple downgrades and dumbing it down for the less adaptable system of a console rather then a CPU.

But all in all we'll have to wait and see, and if it is a MMO, I'll be suprised and happy, if it sticks to the current workings of a Matchmaking system and Halo 3 Style of Combat then I'll still be happy. There will of course be upgrades, and of course it may even have a system of Matchmaking where you sit in a pelican and are dropped into the Combat zones, and at the end leave via pelican to different games, but thats only my thoughts, and specualtions. If anyone can disprove my theory of it Not Being an MMO do the support being unavailable I'll gladly have the discussion about it.

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

I was about to post a theory similar to this, but thought to see if any else was discussing it first. Glad I did.

I have to wonder if Reach might be something like an arena battle MMO, where players play online, but not with quests like in a MMORPG, but almost reenacting the battle of Reach, or something like that.

Here we are again bro... Just you and me. Same kind of moon same kind of jungle. Real number 10 remember... Whole platoon, 32 men chopped into meat... We walk out just you and me, nobody else. Right on top huh? Not a scratch... Not a f**kin' scratch. You know who ever got you. They'll come back again. And when he does I'm gonna cut your name right into him... I'M GONNA CUT YOUR NAME RIGHT INTO HIM!

To be honest everyone should know how bungie manage their marketing of games, people should have been around here long enough to know what bungie is like!! If its speculation and mystery you like then you've come to the right place, personally i just wait until more details are released before jumping the gun and then you don't look stupid when bungie proves certain people wrong and some correct??
Its interesting to read peoples views because i personally haven't a clue about this new release!!

I know i am not but you can at least listen to other people opinions and add some intelligent reasoning to the conversation instead of just stating your opiniions and as we said be fore we get that it is an fps but IT CAN BE BOTH!!!!! why do so few get that and wy are so many focused on the fact that it is an FPS how do you know it wont be a mmo we are just speculating

I'm not going to read the entire thread in every place I post. Don't be stupid. It's unlikely Bungie would decide to dump 90 percent of their fanbase for some MMO that would likely fail. Bungie doesn't make freaking mmos. Get it?

How do you know have you played the game have ou seen what is going to be on it i didnt think so

First of all, learn to use periods. Secondly, yes I have. Microsoft confirmed it is an FPS. Stop crying to me just because I posted what I thought.
so you have played the game and know everything about it? AND i am appalled by the fact that everyone is so focused on the fact that everyone is still focused on it being a FPS, we get it already that doesnt mean it can't still be an mmo i mean all we know is that it is first person and there is a trailer that is it so how do you know it cant be more than just an fps.

Oh yeah It's Rayzed.

Just because its First Person Shooter doesn't mean it can't be MMO. I believe there was actually another game during this E3 that was MMOFPS. In which case...imagine Shadowrun with a better story.

For those who don't know, an MMO is a Massive Multiplayer Online game, meaning, there would be a higher number of people able to play at the same time as usual. (just think of games such as Star wars: Battlefront 1 and 2, or Battlefield, or the likes of World of Warcraft or Guild Wars) there are tons of people who play online at the same time, I doubt an FPS would be able to have as many people in the same place at the same time as Guild Wars or WoW, but like Star Wars: Battlefront and Battlefield, you could still possibly have more than 16 players.

I think what the OP is trying to ask is:

Will Halo: Reach be similar to Battlefield or Battlefront.

In which case, you would select which class you want to be (for example, it could be demolition expert, which would probably have rocket launcher and SP Laser, or Scout, which would have maybe a Sniper and Magnum)

You would also have to take over spawn control points, and also try to defend those points from the opposing team. I think it would be fun if it was this type of game, but that's my opinion. (oh and yes, if you didn't know, Battlefront and Battlefield are FPS games)

And just like the said 2 games, It can still have an offline mode, or Campaign mode (which would still revolve around the capturing spawn control points, with added storyline and various other objectives added to the missions (with increasing difficulty)

By the way, I hope I didn't just type that for nothing lol, and I hope if I didn't, it answered some peoples questions! :)

this is one of the best compromises/ideas i have seen all day minus the wierd objectives

FPS means it's not an mmo. Duh. Straight from the weekly update:

Q. My cousin told me that Halo: Reach is a squad-based tactical MMO featuring all kinds of ridiculous stuff that I shouldn't believe. Is he a liar?

A. Halo: Reach will be a First Person Shooter. You will shoot stuff from a first person perspective. It will be awesome.

Then it's not an FPS. Yes, you could shoot from the first person perspective, but the main genre name would be an MMO.

ISU Cyclones!

Pumpkin's right. The way that Bungie addressed the question indicates that it will not be massively multiplayer. It will be the same FPS gameplay that Bungie has always made just like every game they've made in the Halo series so far.

I agree Halo Reach MMO would make sence.
If was working at bungie i would rip off http://www.battlegroundeurope.com/ then add a bungie/halo spin on it then set it during the battle of reach.

"I hope if dogs ever take over the world, and they chose a king, they don't just go by size, because I bet there are some Chihuahuas with some good ideas." - Jack Handy

I agree with those saying it could be an MMO even though a corporate exec said it was a FPS. You are dealing with semantics and different definitions and alltogether different interpretations on what falls in a given genre.

Example: Would you be wrong in calling MAG a FPS?

What about BioShock?

Meaning I think we have been given the perspective it will be played in, but I would be very surprised if Halo Reach turns out to be your standard HALO package consisting of a campaign and multiplayer.

If you ask me, Reach could be Microsoft's answer to MAG. A game consisting of only an online multiplayer component. Halo Reach, like MAG, will focus on large scale battles. So theoretically this would pretty much be an MMO FPS if it turns out this way.

Keep in mind that is just me speculating. I think it would be a bad move, because MAG is destined to fail. Who knows with Bungie though.

If I could beg the forums attention for a moment while I deliver this statement and retraction of my above post.

I would hearby like to take this oppertunity to apologise most sencerly to my good friend Kenny AKA Pro Kendoy. I made a very 'MEAN' comment about the validity of one of his posts. He is a fine upstanding member of the Bungie community and has made many a valid post and for me to turn round and imediately mock him for his most estute of theories reguarding the upcoming game Halo Reach (Available in all good retailers 2010) was a most hanus of sins. I would even go so far as to say it was insubordinate of me, him being and epic Strike Commander and me a lowly Commander grade 2. I have brought shame on myself, my house and any future children I may or may not have. I mean this from the bottom of my heart Kenny when I say that the day you havnt got a clue will indeed be a day that will shake the very foundations of the earth and all its mediums of communication and I say that without any hint of sarcasm. For you my trusted friend, my muse, my very inspiration, Pro Kendog, the most honorable and indeed heroic member of the Bungie.net forums are as dear to me as my Halo 3 Ledgendary Edition helmet with is custom stand. I wronged you yes, and injected malice into this very forum where no malice had been before and hope in time that you forgive my insulence so that we can move on and our friendship can echo through the ages.

You keep on truckin trooper!

Yours most humbled,

Ben Alexander Crawford (AKA SPARTAN DELBOY, PRO DELBOY)

idk. i like games where u can change your class but there would be no point for halo to do that. it could just be that we could play as different characters like fighting games. lol. imagine a grunt being playable. i would play as it just to be funny

I just think its time Bungie moved out of its comfort zone and did something a little different with Reach.

The sizes are differnent because not all the spartans are the same size. Most of them are generally tall, but each one has different abilities and skills, which certain abilities might require you to be larger in size(strength), and some might require you to be slimmer (speed).

The chances of it being an MMORPGFPS is really unlikely. But we'll know in 3 months...
