That is a bad idea if it was bad but if it would turn out good it is a good idea.

You contributed nothing to the thread.

I watch this on loop when I'm bored.

The MMO was being made by Ensemble before they were split up.

Halo: Reach is not going to be an MMO.

I believe some of you do not understand how technically challenging it is to create an MMO on XBox Live. You assume that a developer just creates an MMO the same way they would create any other game. This turns out not to be the case. Creating an MMO on XBox Live is very difficult due to limitations imposed by the nature of consoles and challenges arising from the nature of the XBox Live service.

Microsoft is currently working on resolving the technical challenges to presenting an MMO on XBox Live. It will involve huge innovation in server infrastructure and game design to accomplish. This is definitely in the works at Microsoft but it is a massive project and will be a great technical achievement.

Bungie as a studio does not have the resources to develop an MMO on XBox Live. The challenge is so daunting, in fact, that it requires the platform owner (Microsoft) to accomplish.

7-7-11 was another awesome Bungie Day! Thanks Bungie for making halo so amazing over the last 10 years. Can't wait to see what your Destiny will be next. ;)

Final Fantasy XI was an MMO on Xbox Live...which was successful at that. Plus, what would make you think that Bungie does or doesn't have the resources required to develop an MMO? They are a huge company, and I am pretty sure they would have no problem creating an MMO if they wanted to...whether it being good OR bad.

Also, to everyone else, just because it has been confirmed to be an FPS, that does not rule out MMO. Planetside is a prime example of this. It was a MMOFPS that had character classes and was team vs team.

Though I don't think Reach is going this route...at least not for the story mode. Maybe multi-player. We will probably have to wait until after Sept 22 to find out more though. :(

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

If Halo Reach is an MMO I will LOVE it. Especially if you can play as many kinds of Covenant and UNSC units.

Its been confirmed to be an FPS. Why are all these pages here trying to debate? Most of these posts don't have anything to do with the thread. Its an FPS. That's all. Let the thread die.
at this point the thread in my opinion isnt focused on weather or not it will be one but the fact that it can be both i know that if you have read some of my other posts you will think that this is redundant but im just trying to make a point that very few seem to get.

Halo Fortress 2?

  • 06.29.2009 1:46 PM PDT

Im sure this would make alot of sense to keep it on story line we would have only the first 35 people to buy the game be spartens and the rest can watch reruns of hello kitty embedded on the disk.

You seem to describe an MMO automatically as an "MMORPG." However, this is not the case entirely. If you've seen MAG for the PS3, that's an MMOFPS. It has 256 players online. You're gravely mistaken as to what an MMOFPS is. Game design is moot as for building an MMO, the only thing that needs to be built is a proper server infrastructure that will hold its weight in water. MMO's are not as challenging as you say. A two man team can easily create an MMO. Although it may be a 2D MMO, you are still over dramatizing the case. Bungie has more than enough resources to develop an MMOFPS. Your claims are built off of the faulty assumption that an MMOFPS is similar to an MMORPG. You also seem to sound quite confident as for the validity of your first statement. Care to show evidence?

Simply put, MMOFPS = tons of players online in a single game.

Dropping into hell.....feet first

For everyone who is saying it is a FPS......stop. We know that. However that does not remove the claim that it can still be an MMO(RPG or FPS whatever). I refer you to a game called Planetside.

If you know what planetside is, skip this next paragraph.

Planetside was an online RPG, that had the player participating in the same persepctive as a FPS. It was an online war constantly waging whether or not you were playing between 3 separate factions on I think ONE planet. Players selected classes, joined factions/clans within their respective military branch choice. Players also leveled up certain skills (OMG, JUST LIKE AN RPG!) of their choosing as they progressed earning xp for completing certain objectives in world.

I am NOT saying this is likely that Reach will be in this category, however it is POSSIBLE. With an entire planet to work with (Reach), with many classes to work with within each respective military branch, it is definitely possible.

I welcome this format of a game. I LOVE the halo games, but it would be nice to see Bungie (Not Ensemble Studios) branch out of the FPS category. Its possible, itd be fun, and with the Halo name slapped on the cover, it would have a massive fan base right from the start..

EDIT: Read the post above mine, he is absolutely right, but unlike MAG, a MMOFPS does not need to even have round based combat. If you die, you respawn back at a base or can drop into combat (with restrictions, you cant fly into an enemy base) via ODST drop pods. ITs possible, not likely, but possible

Halo Reach could quite possible become an MMO, but I wouldn't like it. I want Halo to stay the way all of their previous Halo Games have been.

Now, before the trolls eat me alive and i get flamed into a crispy black corpse, let me explain.

Details were leaked a while back about the Halo MMO, as well as screenshots etc.

If you check out the image for Halo Reach (handily placed at the top of the page) there are some strange physiques there. Since no details of HUGE guys with flamethrowers (on the left) were ever described in first strike, and a lot of the silhouettes are varied and a bit strange, I'm thinking maybe its gonna be the MMO - those games are full of different classes and what not and i doubt M$ are gonna let another big seller just get scrapped.

I can't say i'm an MMO fan (and i hope its not one) but a plausible theory, no?

I leave it to you Bungie community. I'm stumped.

-TDM

I don't think thats gonna be happening.
If you have read the books then you'd know that each one of those spartans fit one of the spartans from the books.

In order, from left to right, I know a lot of people know this already but it doesn't hurt saying it again. They are Sam, Kelly, John, Fred, and Linda.
