Subject: Hunters in Halo 3: ODST are going to be a pain...

Remember Reach!

I was just looking at the Halo 3: ODST Field Guide and noticed that Hunters are in the game... I was already wondering what a Brute Chieftain was going to be like to fight (especially on Legendary) but I think the Hunter could be a huge pain in this game because you play as an ODST. I'm excited for the challenge but this also brought up another thought...

Do you think any of the tougher enemies are going to be scaled down in strength because the ODST is weaker or at least less "effective" than a Spartan? If they aren't, this game has the potential to be way harder than Halo 3!

well, i dunno, have two distracting the hunter, and have the other two shooting it.

  • 06.05.2009 8:25 AM PDT

life is only substance

i bet they wont be scaled down at all

hunter have always been a pain from halo one until now why would they change?

  • 06.05.2009 8:26 AM PDT

In Halo: CE, a Hunter was the easiest thing to kill. If ODST is anything like that (because of the one-shot to an orange zone), history will repeat itself.

: )

With the new pistol the Hunters won't be hard. If you have ever played Halo:CE Hunters are a joke with the pistol, just two or three shots to their back and they go down.

Unless you're by yourself fighting it!

Haha, yeah that's true. I didn't even think about that. I think the Hunters have been vastly improved upon since Halo: CE though.

Look for the signs, the keepers of the flame. They will lead you to war, and perhaps, to victory.

Shangheili FTW

Not really, you have a pistol and an smg. Plus the pistol is scoped, one well aimed shot to the neck and say bye-bye to the hunter.

I highly doubt they bring back the CE Hunters. Bungie made this game for challeneges, when you throw your controler at your TV Bungie will laugh at you. Muhahah

In Halo 2, one sniper shot to the belly and they'd be dead. Do you seriously think that the already stated one headshot kill pistol won't kill a hunter with a shot to the neck?

No kidding, I know that. I was just trying to illustrate better. I wasn't gonna say "one shot to the part just below the helmet of the huge worm congregation.

They are meant to be hard. Hunters were easy as a super soldier. But in ODST you just a regular joe. I hope it's difficult. I want the game to be challenging.

Plus, since it's open-world, you can hide in buildings and such. Why die fighting when you can run away and live to see another day?

You didn't say that... but, in retrospect, you totally should have!

So the "neck" isn't the part just below the helmet of the "huge congregation of lekgolo worms"?

True, true. I wonder if there are going to be a lot of buildings to hide in. It would be a pretty new thing for the Halo series to have an open world (which is already new) environment but with a lot of interior areas to explore as well. It would be insane to run inside of a building and have a Hunter follow you in or come up the stairs or something. Now, I'm just getting exciting. It's really a good thing this game is only 3 months away.

...and pop a sniper bullet in the gaps in its armor.
one thing halo 3 hunters have now is abdomen armour! and their "neck2 is almost impossible to hit without a sniper rifle or scoped weapon in a heated combat situation (unless your some sniping god), but one advantage is that the armour on the back can be blown off, a plasma grenade or 2 will remove it.

or just lob 2 spike grenades to finish it fast thats what i do on hlo 3 campaign, never fails even on legendary.

In the recent Podcast they talk about how they are low on ammo and the walk into a room with stairs, there is a hunter there and one of them jumps and books it outta there but the other ODST in killed almost instantly because he had low health im guessing they cant be like one shot killing machines.

I'm excited. I haven't had a challenging game since Halo: CE =( and this looks like potential. I think Bungie really outdid themselves...2 games? Plus all the maps they have been making, they must really love us =) If this campaign isn't hard i'm going to shoot myself in the foot...

Haha, no, it is. I just liked it better when you said "huge congregation of worms". I've never heard it described that way and it's amazing!

All of that will happen. Lukems mentioned it on the Bungie podcast. he and Sketch got chased into a building by Hunters....Lukems ran and Sketch died...

We're building a better world...all of them, better worlds.

Since a pistol to the back doesn't kill a hunter in Halo 3, and this is Halo 3, I doubt it's going to be that simple. Unless you have some heavy weaponry, I bet it's going to be hard, since otherwise, speed played a big factor in being able to flank around behind them and get a few shots in before you have to dodge a reverse attack. Since the Rookie is slower than the MC, that's going to be a huge disadvantage.

  • 06.05.2009 8:44 AM PDT

theyd better be. in halo CE they were pretty easy to kill. i dont think bungie will make that mistake again. youve seen them in halo 3. even as a spartan you were going up for a challenge unless you had the rocket launcher or spartan laser.

Wow, that sounds amazing. I really need to listen to the podcast! It sounds like there are going to be a lot of situations that Halo players aren't used to. I wouldn't usually run away from a Hunter as much as I would "temporarily retreat" but this game is going to change that. It's going to give you something to fear and that is definitely a new aspect for Halo.
