Subject: Halo Reach Plot (Both Prequel and Sequel?)

Before I explain a possible plot line I thought of, I would like to explain that not only have I played Halo CE, Halo 2, and of course Halo 3, I have also read the books, so I am fully aware of the events that take place within the Halo series.

I have read arguments on these forums back and forth on if Halo Reach is a sequel or a prequel. Many argue that the planet MC is floating towards on the Legendary Ending of Halo 3 is Reach at the start of the Reach trailer. Arguably, unless Bungie goes a corny time travel route, it can not be the planet at the same time of the Reach trailer, i.e. Reach's destruction before Halo CE.

Notice, that I said, "same time." I have been on the prequel fence since I saw the announcement live from E3 (on G4TV). I have been arguing that people need to read the novels to get a better understanding of what happens to Reach and so they may understand the formation of the Spartan II program. But perhaps that the planet MC is floating towards at the end of the H3 LE is in fact Reach, Reach after its destruction (glassing?) by the Covenant?

Halo 3 ODST is following a "Rookie" who finds clues about his squad and then the game proceeds to allow the gamer to play a flashback, showing us what happened to that person. Perhaps that if, and that is a big IF, the planet MC is drifting towards is Reach, he could land and begin scavenging, finding clues of some of his Spartan comrades, to which, the game would proceed to play a flashback of the attack on the planet before Halo CE.

The game could continue the story of MC, but also allow gamers to play as other Spartans or Marines from the epic battle that ensued upon Reach (see novel The Fall of Reach).

Now this is just a prediction that I think Bungie could go with, I am in no means saying this is what they will in fact do. Just speculation. I personally would rather just have a full prequel that allows gamers to play as MC or some other Spartan fighting alongside the other Spartans.

Just an idea.

Interesting Idea, but I'm positive that it will be a prequel. Based on all the informtion we have. But this sure is a interesting take on it. Props to you man.

Hmm, never thought of that. Good idea.

Though I think it would be much easier if they just had it be The Fall of Reach...

Proud frenchie, elite fan, anthro artist not hellbent on yiff convention/pics/whatever, mature and intelligent forum guy, 4chaner, halo 2 lover and halo 3 hater.

that's the most sensed theory I have read about it that I have to refuse.
why? because
1 - unless I am wrong, in first strike, 117 ALREADY goes back on reach. and first strike takes place after HCE...
2- reach has been GLASSED, the surface is liquid lava now. even mc can't go there.
3 - the planet has structures on the surface and even some lights. a glassed planet can't have that kind of thing.

Reach is already confirmed b prequel on xbox.com and gamestop. It is kind of obvious in the trailer, plus Bungie isn't going to trick us about what their game is about. They want to atleast have a good idea of what it is about, hence the trailer. The only levels I could think the Chief would be in is a level where he is destorying the nav data.

Good Point. I am not sure how long until the planet would eventually harden again, but still very good observation.

remeber people even though the whole prequal idea is possibly the best we got right now but we can't really make any official assumtions considering that we have only seen a teaser of halo reach and of what we know from the book but considering that it has been awhile form the fall of reach to the ending of halo 3 really anything could be going on down on the planet reach if that is the planet shown in the lengendary halo 3 ending. So for now i am in the middle of prequel and sequel but more leaning towards it being a prequel. (to be honest though i would rather have a sequel since there have been 2 so far halo wars and halo 3 odst even though they are just spin offs.

Five years older and wiser
The fires are burning, I'm fire, never tire
Slay warriors in the forests, and on hire

could happen, Its better than the time travel theories, but the planet being glassed kinda makes it abit hard for that.
