Everyone wants to debate whether Halo: Reach would be better as a First Person or a Third Person shooter.
I'd like Halo: Reach to be a 2nd person shooter.
Follow me on this; Bungie could integrate Natal to allow us to use hand and body motions to control our XBox Live Avatars. In the case of the 2nd person shooter, it is our XBox Live Avatars which will actually control the first person character in the game.
Here's your "hands-on" to demonstrate how this would work:
You first stand in front of your XBox and hold your hands out as if you were holding a controller.
Now, notice the on-screen Avatar. As you move your hands in the air, you can see the on-screen avatar moving it's hands to mimic your movements. When you press buttons on your imaginary controller you'll see the Avatar pressing buttons on it's controller.
Next, move your head around and notice that as you move your head and body the camera view moves around the room the Avatar is sitting in. Notice the nice leather couch, much better than the shabby couch in your mom's basement that you sit on.
Now that you've been introduced to the controls you're ready to jump into the game.
With the right motions to simulate the correct button presses you can direct your Avatar to start the game. As soon as the game starts you'll want to move to a position in the Avatar's room in which you can get a clear view of the television he's playing on. Now, you simply use the power of Natal's motion capture technology to control the Avatar playing the game.
"The best part is that when you lose a game you can simulate throwing the controller through the television screen and your Avatar will hurl it's controller through the screen of it's television", he deadpanned to the anonymous audience of the forum.
Sitting back slightly TheCyberFreak scanned the words he'd just written, checking for spelling and grammatical errors. He allowed himself a moment to ponder how the Bungie forum community would respond to his idea.
"It doesn't matter really," he mused to himself, "it's a clever idea and if others can't grasp just how profound the idea of a Second Person Shooter is...well then to heck with them." This thought, of course, did not ease the tension that comes with posting to the Bungie forums, knowing that every word he writes is raw meat to the attack dogs that dwell there.
For a moment he hesitated wondering if he should even post his idea. "Oh well", he decided, "not like it matters in the grand scheme of things either way. With a sense of resolve he wrapped up his post with a simple ending.
"What do you think?",
he wrote, openly inviting the opinions of others on the forums. He paused only slightly before quickly hitting the Submit button before he could second guess the decision to post.
